Benita Jutuan Settles was born on December 30, 1963, in Pompano Beach, Florida, to Walter Settles, Jr. and Rosa L. Settles. At a young age, she was baptized at the Golden Heights Church of Christ in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Benita transitioned from labor to reward on January 20, 2026. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Settles, Jr.; her brothers, Johnnie W. Settles, Adolph L. Nelson, Walter T. Settles, and Christopher Settles.
Benita graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She had a special love for music, especially gospel music. Her favorite pastime was playing board games. She had a smile and a laugh that would fill the room. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family.
She leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories: her loving mother, Rosa L. Settles; one sister, Rozetta S. Johnson (Ivory Johnson, Jr.); three brothers, Leonard Settles (Shaunda), Timothy Settles, Darrin Settles (Lashawn), Deborah Nelson, and Deirde Settles; a host of nieces and nephews; Stephanie, Adolph L. Jr., Lamarcus, Tiffany, Erika, Walter, Jr., Michael, Teresa, Jeremy, Ivory J. III, Rukiya, Remeika, Bruce, Terrance (T.J.), Leonard, Jr., Kamecia, Tara, Timothy Jr., Kamryn, Daria; she also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Forrest Church of Christ in Valdosta, Georgia with Brother Leroy Butler officiating. Burial followed at the Walker Cemetery in Quitman, Georgia.
