Bernice was born on June 30, 1932, to Preston and Essie Mae Mickens. She made her transition from this life on March 8, 2024. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Davis, Sr.; her parents, Preston and Essie Mae Mickens; and son, Arthur Davis.
Bernice was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church in Quitman, Georgia. She served as a missionary. She was also a part of the senior choir with the youth department, and countless other areas of service.
Bernice attended school in Brooks County. She was employed with state representative Henry Reeves for years, then employed through the Brook County school system. Her last work history was The Quitman Manufacturing Company, where she retired. Retirement didn’t end because she was a daycare provider for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernice married the love of her life, Robert Lee Davis, Sr. on March 15, 1948. They were blessed in this union with eleven kids: Robert Davis, Jr., James Boy-Davis of West Palm Beach, FL, Melissa Davis, Linda Davis, Wesley Davis of North Carolina, Opal Jones (Anthony- deceased), Arthur L. Davis (deceased), Ricky Davis, Doreen Davis, Saress Davis, and Troy Davis; one sister, Bertha Warren (Glenn-deceased) of New York; one brother, Preston Mickens, Jr.; three sisters that preceded her in death, Mary Frances McIntosh, Cleo Mobley, and Margie Chappell; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. She also leaves behind two god-sons, Mr. Jim McGhee, Sr., and Willie Charles Clemons; close friends, Mary Alice Adams, Jackie Shelton, and Edna Collins.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 1PM-4PM.
A celebration of life will be Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 2:30PM at Bethel AME Church in Quitman, GA with Rev. Renee G. Theophille, officiating. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery.
