Betty Jean Jackson peacefully transitioned on October 21, 2024, in Quitman, Georgia. She was born to Osbie Hollis and Louella Phillips in Quitman, Georgia, on October 23,
1941. She has been a faithful member of the Church of Christ from an early age. Betty was educated at Washington Street Schools but finished by obtaining a GED. Betty married Tommy James "Bobby" Jackson in 1960. Their 54-year union provided a nurturing and vibrant home for their five children, grandchildren, relatives, and community. Betty's favorite pastime was family, fishing, and cooking.
Mrs. Jackson worked with the Brooks County High School Cafeteria staff for over thirty years, providing meals for students and staff. She served on the kitchen hospitality team at the Shumate Church of Christ. Her culinary skills and compassionate heart were apparent to anyone who visited her home. She always prepared enough food for visitors, leading many to say, "she fed most of Brooks County."
She is survived by her three sons, Woodrow Jackson (Audrey) of Alachua, FL, Tommy Jackson (Jackie) of Quitman, GA, and Curtis Jackson (Takesha) of Quitman, GA; one sisters, Louise Carter (Curtis) of Pavo, GA; sisters-in-law, Bertha Brown, Linda Mapp, Christine Young, Carolyn Green, Irene (Cary) Cody, Angela Stokes, and Dionne (Charles) Wilson, all of Valdosta, GA; brothers-in-law, Clyde (Ella) Jackson of Dasher, GA, Lois Jackson of Tampa, FL, and Nathan Jackson and Richard (Brenda) Jackson of Valdosta, GA; two aunts, Lizzie Hutton and Retha Hollis of West Palm Beach, FL; a special niece and nephew Debra Young and Devonta Young; twenty grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy James (Bobby) Jackson; two children, Patricia Ann Thomas and Anthony Jerome Jackson; two grandsons, Matthew Jerard Jackson and Jarro Eady; parents, Osbie Hollis and Louella Arnold; brother, Henry Isaac, Jr.; and sisters, Pauline Brooks, Beverly Hollis, Lillian Hollis, and Gloria Isaac.
Hone going services will be Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11AM at Shumate Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
