On Saturday January 31, 2026, at 1:40 pm Mr. Calvin Vinson AKA Booly, passed away peacefully and crossed over from time to eternity.
He was born July 10, 1936, to the late Shermon Lee Vinson and Catherine Davis. He attended the Brooks County schools and for a short period of time he attended school in Delray Bch. Florida. Mr. Vinson loved the outdoors, gardening okra, peas, collard greens sharing that goodness with family and friends. He also sold watermelons from the back of his truck. Growing up in Quitman he had a love for Mr. Bishop Chapel who loved his mother Catherine they united and became a family. His passion outdoors continued driving eighteen wheelers across the states. He worked for JY McDaniels for 15years until he decided to go independent for 5 yrs. He moved to New York for a short period of time then returned to his roots in Quitman, Ga. He had a love for Greyhound dogs that was so deep, he breath, bred and raised running the Greyhounds for 20 years with the Greyhound Association. His dedication included many winning All-star dogs. That landed him a photo along with others on the front cover of The Greyhound Review in 2013. He was a member of Bethel AME Church where he served as an usher for several years. He didn't mind telling you I pray everyday and I don't bother anybody. Calvin, strong and bold, continues to be a fighter despite his sickness. He continued to cruise on to his favorite spot and sit in the truck at Petro store and Marathon gas station in Quitman.
Calvin is proceeded in death Parents Sherman Lee Vinson, Bishop and Catherine Chapel, Daughter Daphne Vinson, Brothers; Willie James Wilson and Douglas Chapel; Grand-daughter and 2 Great- Grands.
He leaves to cherish his memories, 3 daughters; Rena Belin (Alfort), Carolyn Pitts, Carolyn Williams; 1 son Toddrick Hadley; sisters, Doris Nichols of Tampa, FL, Geneva Davis and Marion Minor, both of Quitman, GA; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. Long time friend companion/caregiver Lillian Newson of Quitman, Ga. He also leaves behind, Honorary children, Myanna Denson (caregiver) James Lawerence, Curtis Lawerence, Kellee Lawrence, Montel Denson, Ronald Denson, Ronnie Denson, Donnie Denson all from Quitman, Ga. Host of relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 4PM-7PM.
A celebration of life will be Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 11AM at Graham Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery. Visit this website to view a livestream of the celebration.
