Deacon Bennie Fang (Joe) Boatman was born to the late James“JD” and Ruby Lee Boatman in Delray, Florida on July 17, 1953. He departed this life on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
As a young child Bennie moved from Florida to Nankin, Georgia. Bennie was the spoiled child and the baby out of the bunch.
He received his education in Brooks County School System and The Job Corps. Bennie joined the Marines to fight for his country. After returning from overseas Bennie had a lot of different jobs. He was employed at the International Tractor Company in Quitman, then he later moved to the one Nashville, GA under Mr. Gretchen. Bennie’s final job was with South Georgia Cleaning Services on Moody Air Force Base under the leadership of Dennis Smith and Drew Smith, where he worked for twenty-five years until his health began to fall.
Bennie was a member of Liberty Baptist Church as a child and young adult. Later in life, Bennie joined Zion Temple Church of God In Unity and served and worked in his church until his health declined. Bennie was a member on the Deacon board, amazing Sunday school teacher, Youth Department President, President of the 5th Sunday Union under Elder Bill Johusa. He served on the Usher board and worked in the kitchen, general upkeep and chauffeur for Elder Wanell Parker.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: James Boatman, BJ Boatman, Ulysesses Boatman, Sylvester Boatman; His Son: Bennie Boatman, Jr.; His Father-in-law: John Christian and His Sister-in-law: Sonia Christian.
He was united in holy matrimony to his loving and caring wife of 41 years Sabrina McLeod Boatman. To this union three children were born plus a bonus child.
Five loving and precious daughters: Latasha McLeod of Quitman, GA, Flasha (Felecia) Boatman of Valdosta, GA, Litundra Boatman of Quitman, GA, Mary Boatman of Boston, GA and Jamarel Waters of Pavo, GA; Three handsome and strong Sons: Bennie Boatman Jr. (Stacey) of Fort Valley, GA, Lawrence Boatman (Michelle) of Marysville, Washington and Anthony Johnson of Quitman, GA; Fourteen wonderful Grandchildren: Jaquasha Golden, Lakeria Cason, Tyriona Williams, Everett Cason, Marquavious Pickett, Kerey Weatherspoon, Kyriaunna Wright, Alaina Mack, Bryden Weatherspoon, Laylah Boatman, Lawrence Boatman Jr. Malachi Pickett, Lance Boatman and Savanna Rose Boatman; Seven amazing Great-Grandchildren: Kameron Robinson, Journee Silas, Carter Cason, Alaya Robinson, Jaylen Netterville, Jase Silas, Aubriella Wright; A loving, caring and wonderful mother-in-law: Katie Mae Speed; Two wonderful loving sisters: Celie Sims and Dorothy Hamilton; One amazing Brother-in-law: Anthony McLeod; One amazing Sister-in-law: Angelan McCloud; Two Special Nephews: Sylvester Sims (Chandra) and Tyrone Boatman; A Special Niece: Alicia Horton; A Special Neighbor: Johnnie Mae Flounory; A Special Neighbor and Cousin: Edward Arnold and Family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 12PM at Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Delvin Boatman, officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
