Mrs. Dollie Jean Riley was born on November 30, 1942 in Brooks County, Georgia to the late Annie Mae and J.D. Vickers. She departed this earthly life on March 22, 2023.
Dollie Jean spent her early years in Quitman, Georgia and was educated in the Brooks County School System. In 1960, she met and wed Arthur “June” Brown. Out of this union, three boys were born. They later moved to Durham, North Carolina for a couple of years and later moved to California. Dollie Jean went to nursing school in East Los Angeles to become a LPN.
She moved back and forth between Georgia and California, before meeting her current husband, Henry Riley. During this time, she worked at Huntington Hospital and St. Luke hospital in Pasadena, California. She worked at Brooks County Hospital before going to work at the Presbyterian Homes, where she would later retire. She was an active member of FODIE COGIU in Quitman, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Janice Bartee and son Timothy Brown; her sisters Vernell Jones, Peggy Vickers, Mattie Tyson and Mary Denson and her brother Joe Willie Vickers.
She leaves to mourn her memory, her husband Henry Riley; her children Anthony Brown from San Pedro, CA, Patrick Brown from Quitman, GA, Tracy (Keith) Rhodes of Tampa, FL, Lisa (Reginald) Davis from Quitman, GA, Sheila (Jimmy) Miller from Quitman, GA, Christopher Jones of Tampa, FL, Cory Riley of Tampa, FL, and Jonathan Riley of Quitman, GA, bonus sons Greg Shelton, Edward Bartee and bonus daughter Regina Christian. She leaves two sisters, Mattie Freeman of Quitman, GA and Barbara (Willie) Johnson of Pomona, CA; several cousins that were raised in the house along with her as sisters and brother; Rose Riley, Gloria Ashe, Carolyn Denson, Willie Denson, Johnny Denson, and Carl Denson and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 1PM-7PM.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 11AM at The Tabernacle Church of God with Dr. Kenneth Dupree, officiating. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration on Saturday.
