Elder Lori J. Brown Smith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on May 28, 2026, to rest in the Master's bosom. She was a loving mother, a faithful prayer warrior, and a woman whose kindness knew no bounds. Lori was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, and share the love of Christ with those around her. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and fishing, all of which brought her great joy.

Lori was born on November 6, 1962, in Quitman, Georgia, to the late Reverend Martin J. Brown and Estella Brown. She was raised in Brooks County, Georgia, where she graduated from Brooks County High School as a member of the Class of 1981. During her high school years, Lori excelled as an outstanding basketball player for the Brooks County Trojans, proudly wearing jersey number 22. Her athletic achievements earned her numerous honors, including the Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player awards. She continued her education at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia, on a full basketball scholarship, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

At an early age, Lori accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. As her relationship with God deepened, she answered His call into ministry and was ordained as an Elder of the Gospel on July 26, 2000, at New Greater Union Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshipped and served for more than 30 years.

Lori shared over 34 years of love and companionship with her beloved husband, Ora M. Smith III, including 28 years of marriage. Through this union, they were blessed with two children, Martavius Smith and Anhea Smith. She also lovingly embraced and cared for her bonus children, Travis Smith and Akeem Sloan.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted husband, Ora M. Smith III; her beloved children, Martavius (Tamika) Smith, Anhea Smith, Travis Smith, and Akeem Sloan; and her treasured grandchildren, Tevin Peak Jr. (TJ), Te'Riq Peak, and Ah'Raiya Smith.

She is also survived by her loving mother, Estella Brown; her aunts, Elveria and Ora Lee Wade; and her siblings, Ruby, Martin (Sonja), Calvin (LaChez), Carolyn, Debra, Jennifer (Wayman), Diane, Israel (Barbara), Karen, Tiffany, Laci (Kenneth) and Rosa (Matthew).

Additionally, she leaves behind her cherished sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Glenda (Mike), Cynthia (Randy), Sabrina (Anthony), Whitney (Deontae), Earl (Mamie Jo), and Willie Cal (Patrice).

Lori was blessed with a legacy of godchildren, a special niece, LaKisha Waters Davis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Among those who held a special place in her heart

were the Brooks County High School Class of 1981 Trojanettes, Arlene Oliver, Rosetta Samuel, Charlie Denson, and David Monds.

Elder Lori J. Brown Smith's life was a testimony of faith, love, service, and perseverance. Her legacy will continue to live through the countless lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the faith she so faithfully demonstrated. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Union Cathedral Church in Valdosta, Georgia with Bishop Wade S. McCrae officiating. Burial followed at the Pallbearers Cemetery in Valdosta, Georgia.
