"Our Matriarch," Geneva “Louise” Demps Spencer was born to the late Manning and Juliette Demps on November 17, 1942, in Quitman, Georgia. She was affectionately known as "Biggie," "Efie," and most importantly, "Nana." Geneva had a kind and gentle spirit and opened her home to family, friends and anyone who needed a listening ear.
Like her Sugar Pie Hunny Bunch, "Paul E.," she was a graduate of the 1960 Washington Street High School "Wildcats." On October 17, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, "Paul E." who gave her the nickname, "Genny." "Paul E." was her term of endearment for him and was the love of her life for 59 years. She loved him deeply. They are now living for the weekend in the life of Heaven.
As the oldest daughter, she became the big sister and nurturer of her nine siblings. She gained a lifetime of respect from all her siblings, and it fits a role that she naturally felt comfortable in. She was a person of respect and could have written the book on family.
Her family was everything, and she was all about LOVE. As a wife and mother to five kids, she was very happy. It was a role she was meant for. She took on that role with pride.
Motherhood was a role that she thought was the greatest.
Geneva was funny and would give people nicknames. This was the way she displayed her terms of endearment. She also gave herself a middle name which was, "Louise." On May 29, 2025, she completed her promise to GOD to return home. It will be hard to imagine a world without her sweet smile and loving hugs. She filled our lives with so much warmth, joy, and unconditional love. Every memory of her is a treasure we will hold close to our hearts forever. She will be deeply missed, and her love will continue to guide us.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her two daughters, Tammie Collie of Boca Raton, FL, and Lawonda Spencer of Miami, FL; one son, Paul Spencer, Jr., (Rence) of Miramar, FL; goddaughter, LaQuisha Smith of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, JoAnn King (Kelly) of Miramar, FL, and Mary Thompson of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Kelly Demps; thirteen grandchildren, Takia Johnson (Tyler), Jordy Spencer, Brandon Spencer, Mashonda Smith, Adrian Smith, Jr. (Jamile), Tia Spencer, Eriq Collie, Kendra Smith, Jacobi Wright, Tiffany Maloy, Brien Spencer, Tony Maloy, and Bryce Spencer, all of South Florida: one god-granddaughter, Autumn of Jacksonville, FL; special friends; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Home Going services were Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 1PM at Spencer Cemetery in Dixie, GA with Rev. Floyd Demps, officiating.
