Obituary For George Glenn, Jr.

George Glenn, Jr., known as Jr to his family, was born in Boston, Ga on February 12, 1931, to the late George Glenn, Sr. and Christine Major Glenn. On April 22, 2026, the Lord called George home.

George was the eldest of seven children and the oldest living grandchild of James and Isabelle Major. From an early age, he accepted Christ and became a devoted member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where he once served as a Sunday school teacher.

He graduated from Boston Colored High School in May 1950. George was a hardworking and dedicated family man who took great pride in providing for his loved ones. He was employed at JN Rosolio delivering office equipment. After a few years he changed his career and was employed at Universal Georgia Forest lumber company, Moultrie, Ga., where he worked as a Foreman. He remained committed to his work until his retirement following his stroke.

George met a young Jessie Lee Dunbar in Boston, and the two fell deeply in love. They were united in marriage on September 19, 1954, and shared 71 wonderful years together. Their life was filled with love and cherished moments, including birthdays, anniversaries, the births of grandchildren, graduations, marriages, baptisms, and countless other family celebrations, but some of his proudest memories was being able to be in attendance to see his grandson, Torrance G. Cleveland be promoted to Colonial in the United States Army in 2023, his great granddaughter Kiram Harrison graduate from FAMU college in 2024 and his great grandson, Jaelin Sneed graduate from East Bay High in May 2024.

George will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his faith. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Livingston, Harry, Franklin and Edward Glenn and two sisters, Lillian Mooreheadand Mary Scott.

He leaves to cherish his memory of his beloved wife, Jessie Lee Glenn, only son, George M. Glenn(Daphanie) of Waynesboro, Ga; daughters, Joann Lyles(Mark) of Tampa, Fl, Cynthia D. Mitchell(Andrew, Sr.) of St. Petersburg, Fl, Sheryl MaGee of Conyers, Ga, and Belinda G. Ross of Riverview, Fl. 17 Grandchildren; 31 ½ great grands; and 3 great great grands, Sister in laws Fronnie Glenn of Valdosta, Georgia, and Frances Glenn, of Lynchburg, Virginia. George also is survived by a host of , nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also has two remaining classmates and friends, Mr. Elvin Herring and Mrs. Geraldine Turner Murray, and close friend Mrs. Lena Williams.

Home going services will be Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11AM at St. John AME Church in Boston, GA. Burial will follow in the Boston Cemetery. Visit this website to view a livestream of the celebration.
