The Obituary Ms. Gloria Jean Newsome was born June 13, 1947 to the late Alice Newsome and Willie Glee. Gloria was raised in Quitman (Brooks County), GA where she received her education in the public school system. At a young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and she was baptized. She spent the majority of her life as an usher of Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church. Gloria also received three degrees in the workforce; Auto Mechanic, Welder, and an Electrician. After her health started failing her, she moved to Raeford, NC where later she joined Friendship Grove FWB Church. Gloria was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; two brothers, Willie Mack and Rudolph; and one sister, Rena Newsome. She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Rondall Newsome (Kimberly) of Pooler, GA; three daughters, Yolanda Bookhart (Allen) of Raeford, NC, Phaedra Newsome of Quitman, GA, and Natalyn Horne (Bruce) of Southern Pine, NC; eight sisters, Roberta Howell (Willie) of Valdosta, GA, Nadine Jefferson of Quitman, GA, Willie Jean Maryland of Kissimmee, FL, Rebecca, Annette, Gwen (Patrick), Patricia, Collette all of Jacksonville, FL, and Silvia (Ricky) of Orlando, FL; five brothers, Frederick James of Valdosta, GA, Melvin Glee (Tisha) of Lee, FL, Wayne Glee of Jacksonville, FL, Joseph Glee (Sharon) of Orlando, FL, and Richard Glee (Teresa) of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Merlene Newsome; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11AM on the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Lawn. Burial will follow in Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
