On August 18, 2023, at the age of 75, Helen Cruz gained her heavenly wings and joined her heavenly family.
On March 5, 1948, Helen was born to Eldon James Turner and Hazel Head in Brooks County, GA. She spent her early years in Pavo, GA and was educated in the Brooks County School System.
In 1970 her life’s path led her to New Jersey where she worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Visiting Nurses Association for over 15 years.
In 1977, she met Juan Cruz and the two immediately fell in love. Little did she know this was the beginning of a large, expansive family, something that gave her much joy in life.They went on to marry on July 12, 1984. They lived a life filled with love and adoration for each other for 46 years.
Helen was talented and bold in many aspects of her life. She loved fashion and dressing up from a very young age. She was a master in cooking, all things fashion, and interior design, an avid shopper and an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Being a mother was one of the most important parts of herlife, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent mom, supportive, kind, hilarious, and witty and we will all miss her dearly. We love you so much. Rest well our beloved Queen.
Helen is pre-deceased by Eldon James Turner (Father); Hazel Turner (Mother), Antonio Cruz (son), Omar Turner(grandson), Mazyah Thomas (granddaughter), Lacey Turner (brother), Bessie Boges (sister), Betty Cannon (sister), Ernestine Turner (sister) and Edna Roundtree (sister). She is survived by her husband Juan Cruz; 13 children; Patrieciee Turner, Janice Turner, Sonia Turner; Niaima Turner, Matthew Thomas, Diane Thomas, Geneeva Thomas; Juan Cruz; Carlos Cruz; Miguel Cruz;Joanna Cruz; Luzy Cruz and George Cruz 23 grandchildren; Marquis (Yolanda), Dontae (Angela), Demetrii, Namia (Alonzo), Emerson (Shay), Ebony, Voug(Sierra), Zijhe, Makui, Alex, Renae, Shanice, Shanay, Crystal, Tanaya, Tysha (Sierra), Angel, Destiny, Veronica, Miguel Cruz, Jr., Joseph, Champagne, Carlos Jr., Giovanni and Brian, 36 great-grandchildren, 2 siblings; Sally Christian, Eldon James Turner Jr; 2 best friend; Lorretta Robinson and Valerie Love and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pavo, Georgia with Pastor Wilbert Mobley, Sr. officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
