Helen Pitts was born on February 18, 1948, in Sparks, Georgia, to Rosa Mae Perry and Isaac Mathis Sr. From an early age, Helen was known for her gentle spirit, inner strength, and deep love for family and community. She received her education at Cook County Training School in Adel, Georgia. Upon graduation, she attended Albany State University and Valdosta State University, where she earned advanced degrees in Education.
On June 13, 1966, she married her grade school sweetheart. Together, they built a life that was a shining example of love and partnership, remaining devoted to one another until his passing on August 12, 2023.
Helen lived a life marked by kindness, faith, and quiet resilience. As a faithful wife and devoted mother, she exemplified love, wisdom, and unwavering support. She led by example-living with integrity, working diligently, and always extending a helping hand to those in need.
She was blessed with three sons, each of whom she cherished deeply: James R. Pitts Jr. (Sohnnita), Jarrett
R. Pitts Sr. (Kathryn), and Issac J. Pitts Sr. (Batina). Helen was immensely proud of the men they became and the families they nurtured. Her legacy lives on through them, her grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mrs. Pitts was a proud educator for over 30 years and a Distinguished Lifetime Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was also a member of the Georgia Educators Association and remained active with the Retired Teachers Association following her retirement.
Helen found joy in the simple pleasures of life-cooking, traveling, attending church, and spending time with loved ones. She was a steady source of wisdom and comfort, the person many turned to in times of need. Her presence brought peace.
Her faith in God was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of both Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Brookfield, Georgia, Helen's trust in the Lord shaped the way she loved and lived. Her generosity, grace, and quiet strength reflected the heart of a true servant.
Helen Pitts departed this life on May 27, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, faith, and family-one that will endure through the generations.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, a host of grandchildren, relatives, and friends who will continue to honor her memory and hold her in their hearts forever.
