Celebrating Life of Homer Spencer Jr.
Homer Spencer Jr. was born on May 14,1954, in Quitman, Georgia to the late Homer Spencer and Daisy Spencer. Homer departed this life on October 7,2020.
Homer attended Brooks County High School in Quitman, GA. Upon graduation he resided in Corona, Queens and later moved to Hillside,N.J. and finally moved to Hahira,Ga.
Homer worked for NY City Transit Authority(MTA) for 28 years from which he retired. He was an active member of the Singleton Lodge #22 of N.Y., where he served as an Mason,Treasury, Jr. Wharton, Sr. Wharton and a Marshall.
Homer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and a family man.
Homer leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Jacqueline Alston-Spencer of Piscataway, N.J. One son Terry Arnold of Quitman, GA, One daughter Jessica Spencer of Thomasville, GA. A cherished granddaughter Yasmine Spencer of Hahira,GA. One stepdaughter Ryan Alston of Piscataway, N.J., five grandchildren Shardaya Turner of Stockbridge, GA., Terrin Arnold Jr. of Valdosta,GA., Malcolm Arnold of Valdosta, Ga., Randy Williams of Raleigh, N.C. Two great-grands, Maliya Turner and Skyla Turner of Stockbridge, GA. One Sister Carol Gordon (Luther Gordon) of Thomasville, GA. Five brothers, Rufus Spencer of Quitman, GA., Frank Spencer ( Constance Spencer) of Thomasville, GA., Cleveland Spencer (Buffie Spencer) of Thomasville, GA., Rayfield Spencer of Quitman, GA and Kenneth Spencer (Alacia Spencer) of Quitman, Ga. Homer was preceded in death by his late first wife, Cosette Spencer and late nephew, Kendrick Spencer.
Homer leaves behind to grieve his close devoted friends Carlton Holden of Queens, N.Y. and Venral Grant of Newark,N.J. and varies other close friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 11AM until 12:30PM. A private celebration of life will follow the visitation and also be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 1PM. A livestream of the celebration will be available on this website as well as our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page.

Our prayers are with the Spencer family, Homer and friend Alvin meet together in heaven. Homer was a true friend to Alvin and our family over the years before Alvin passing. When he visited home in Quitman, he would come by and see Alvin, he treated him like a brother.There is a saying, give flowers while yet live. Homer was first married to my late cousin, Cosette. I remember him as being warm, friendly, extremely funny and a true Southern gentleman-he was so proud of that.
