Obituary For Keith Cody

Keith Dwayne Cody, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 30, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on June 23, 1962, in Quitman, Georgia, Keith lived a life rooted in love for his family, dedication to his work, and a true passion for Georgia Tech.

Keith was the beloved son of Almeria Cody and William Strickland. He grew up in Brooks County, where he graduated from Brooks County High School. He was one of four siblings—cherished by his sister Evelyn Stevens (Kenneth) of Quitman, Georgia, and his brother Maurice Cody (Bonnie) of Columbus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Cody.

A proud veteran, Keith served his country as an E-4 Specialist in the United States Army from 1981 to 1984 and was honorably discharged. His professional journey reflected his commitment to protecting and serving others. He worked as a correctional officer for Thomas County Prison and Colquitt County Prison, a jailer at Thomas County Jail, a police officer for the City of Quitman, a courier for Secure Records, a receiving clerk at American Signature, a Federal Security Officer for Paragon Systems, and a warehouse worker for Netafilm.

Keith’s heart belonged to his fiancée, Jennifer Daniels, and his daughter, Shamaria Daniels, who he lovingly called “the apple of his eye.” His pride extended to his granddaughter, Hazelyn Revels, and to his host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored him. He shared unshakable bonds with his special friends—Farrell Watkins, David Monds, and Sam Watts—who stood by him through life’s many seasons.

Raised in faith, Keith joined Morning Star Baptist Church at a young age, but also faithfully visited Rocky Mt. Zion AME Church and Friendship AME Church, where he was welcomed as family.

Keith was a die-hard Georgia Tech fan whose gold-and-white pride could light up a room. He enjoyed watching old Western shows, cheering for all sports, and was known for his impressive collection of hats. His sense of humor, hardworking nature, protective spirit, and deep compassion made him unforgettable to everyone he met.

Keith leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty. He will be remembered as a man who stood firmly for his family, friends, and beliefs, and whose life was as rich and vibrant as the Georgia Tech colors he so proudly wore.

Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 3PM-7PM.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11AM at Friendship AME Church with Pastor Marshall Ingram, eulogist. Burial will follow in Morning Star MB Church Cemetery. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
