Obituary For Louis Butler Miller “LB”

Louis Butler "LB" Miller was born on March 17, 1936, the eldest son to proud par-ents: Charlie B. Miller and Hattie Mae Brice Miller in Morven, Georgia. Louis began working at a young age and helped Poppa Miller farm the fields. He also worked in the tobacco barn. He attended Georgia Public Schools and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. After graduating from Brooks County High School in 1959, Louis relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

On November 1, 1961, Louis joined in holy matrimony with Margaret "Annette Sims. Together, they built a home and raised four children: Zinda, Sharonda, Ramona and Michael. He provided a safe and stable home to his loving wife and family. This union lasted 53 years and Annette preceded him in death. In 2015 God led him to join New Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1988, underre-leadership of Dr. Mack King Carter where he attended until failing health would not allow in-person worship. Louis enjoyed being outside where he grew fruits and maintained his yard meticulously. He was awarded the "Beautification Award" by the City of Oakland Park. Louis was an active member of the Rock Island Homeowners' Association and strived to ensure that the community's needs were addressed. His favorite past-times for relaxation were fishing and caring for his dogs. He enjoyed annual July family vacations in Georgia.

His favorite slogan was, "I gotta go catch that mule" - meaning it's time to go to work and work he did. Louis began as a Short Order Cook at "The Little Palace Restaurant" on Sistrunk and 9" Avenue. He continued to perfect his culinary skills and was Head Chef for 40+ years combined at Perry's Steakhouse and The Flaming Pit both located in Pompano Beach, Florida. Patrons would return daily and each winter to cat and socialize at the restaurants. He would sometimes leave the kitchen to personally check on the customers and build many lifelong friendships. He was often approached by competing restaurant owners to come work for them, however he refused. He ofticially retired in 2010.

He was a savvy no-nonsense man with a true business mingset. Louis worked briefly in the construction industry and he had the ability to measure by sight. He enjoyed Tootsic Rolls and a good joke or two, but was always ready to "speak up for LIB" (running joke). Louis spoke his truths and once his mind was set, you could not change it. He had a great sense of humor and could not wait to deliver a rapid response, sometimes with no apologies. He was comical in nature, but never sugar coated the issue at hand, At 90, he shared a lifetime of historical and personal events of growing up in the South. He often provided life perspectives with the hope of make ing a difference in the lives of those he encountered. He spoke of the past and the hope of a breter future, He had an uncanny ability to talk to the individuals and through a series of questions, he would teach, guide and direct,
