Obituary For Lovette "Lovie" Lee Sims

Lovette “Lovie” Lee Sims, ninety, departed this life on March 1, 2023, at Tifton Regional Hospital of Tifton, Georgia. Though known to many as Lovie Lee, she was “Mudear” to her children, grandchildren, and church family who love her dearly. Mudear was born May 11, 1932, in Cook County, Georgia, to Estella (Sermons) and John Ray. She was the youngest of nine children, six girls and three boys. She attended the Cook County school system and was active on the basketball team.

At an early age, she joined Rose Hill Baptist Church; years later, she met and married the love of her life, C.B. Sims, and joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang alto in the Senior Adult Choir.

She faithfully and tirelessly supported her family by working at Davis Brothers Cafeteria for fifteen years; there, she honed her cooking and baking skills. She had a special knack for fashion, gardening, party planning, event design, and hosting. Whenever she had spare time, she would spend it in her flower garden. Mudear was eager to share tips for hosting great dinner parties, weddings, and showers to anyone who was willing to listen. She would later use these God-given talents to serve others in the kingdom of God.

As she grew older and wiser, she sensed something was missing in her life. She desired more than what she had experienced and sought a deeper faith which led her to accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior. Further, she joined Pentecostal House of Prayer Church in Valdosta, Georgia, under the leadership of Apostle Kathy Kinchen. There, she became the “mother” of the church as well as mother of the international ministry. Her passion for hospitality never waned. Mudear was the teacher of the Etiquette class, where she trained youth to serve in the spirit of excellence. She was also over the K. K. House during the summer, where she served many international guests.

She was loved by many. Although a woman of no nonsense, she was quick-witted with an infectious smile and a gentle heart. Lovette, Lovie, Mother, Granny, or Mudear… what’s in a name? “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

In addition to her parents and seven siblings, she was preceded in death by three sons, Dennis, Butch, and Dean Sims.

Her memory will live on in: her six children and two stepsons, Janice Miller Walker of Valdosta, GA, Apostle Kathy Kinchen (Norvell) of Valdosta, GA, Nelson Sims (Cassandra) of Sparks, GA, Lequitta Sims and Kim Wynn (John), both of Valdosta, GA, Angela Sims of Adel, GA, Charles Sims (the late Wendy) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Louis Sims (Tonya) of Winter Haven, FL; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; fifteen greatgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Bell Ray Smith of Atlanta, GA (formerly of Sparks, GA); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at Pentecostal House of Prayer, 315 East Central Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601 from 4PM-6PM.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11AM at Pentecostal House of Prayer with Pastor Eddie B. Sims, Jr., presiding and Prophetess Martechia Weldon, Officiating Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Sparks Cemetery in Sparks, GA. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration on Saturday.

Continue to keep the Sims family in your daily thoughts and prayers.
