Obituary For Mary Lee Childs Williams

Mrs. Mary Lee Childs Williams, 80, of Barwick, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026 at the Presbyterian Home of Quitman.

Mary was born on July 9, 1945 to Evelina Childs and Joe McKind of Barwick, GA. She grew up in a close-knit community, where she attended Boston Elementary in Boston, Georgia and Cross Roads in Dixie, Georgia. Mary was known in her community for her kindness, her hardworking ethics, her caring personality and her generosity. She was a dedicated farm worker and a loving babysitter in her later years.

She met and married Authur Lee Williams ON February 24, 1968. Together, they raised and cared for 7 children.

Mary is now reunited in eternal peace with her son, Arthur J. Childs, Jr.; her brother, David Childs; her sister, Betty Childs; her parents, Evelina and Joe McKind.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Arthur Lee Williams, her children, Rose Childs (George Lamons), Tony Childs (Sharon), Preston Williams (Anita), Jerome Williams (Lisa), Derwin Williams (Stephanie) and Decameron Williams; two sisters, Mary Haynes and Bernice Copeland of Cairo, GA; 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law; a special niece, Tamarra Child, whom she raised as her own; special ladies, whom she shared a lifelong friendship with, Ms. Dorothy (Panky) Johns, Ms. Grace King, Mrs. Ernestine Christopher, Ms. Essie Daniel and Ms. Betty Dawson.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11AM at First AB Church in Barwick, GA with Rev. Charlie Dunbar, officiating. Burial will follow in Westside Cemetery.
