Mary Lee Jones, lovingly known as “Ma Mary,” was born on February 25, 1925, in Madison County,Florida. She quietly and peacefully answered the Lord’s call on March 19, 2026, in Quitman, Georgia, surrounded by loved ones.
Mary Lee was the heart of her family—a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was “MaMary” to all the generations that followed and received her nurturing care and warm smile. She lived her life rooted in unconditional faith in God, and her days were marked by love, joy, kindness, and a deep spirit of service. Anyone who crossed her path felt her warmth, her wisdom, and her gentle strength. She received early education in the Madison County, Florida and Brooks County, Georgia school systems.
At an early age, Mary Lee accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was baptized and began a lifelong journey of faithful devotion. She committed herself fully to God’s work and became a dedicated and active member of the Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church family. Through worship, service, and steadfast faith, she remained a pillar of her church and community until declining health no longer allowed her.
Mary Lee believed deeply in the value of hard work, a lesson she lived out daily throughout her adult life. She also believed strongly in the importance of education and made sure her children were given every opportunity to learn and grow. More than words, she taught by example; instilling in her family the guiding principles to pray first, study diligently, work honestly, and love one another always.
Mary Lee was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Sarah Jenkins Thomas; her husband, William Cain Jones; her son, Norman Henry Jones; and her grandsons, Derick LeGerald Jones and Enrique Ricardo Jones.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her children: Bertha Jones Hollis (the late Rev. Terrell Hollis, Sr.) of Quitman, Georgia; Bernard Jones of Mt. Dora, Florida; and LaGrande Jones Aikens (Honorable Augustus D. Aikens, Jr.) of Tallahassee, Florida. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Jennie V. Jones of Crawfordville, Florida; her devoted lifelong cousin, Katheryn Thomas Davis ”Monk” of Albany, Georgia; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whose lives she touched in meaningful ways.
Mary Lee Jones leaves a legacy of faith, family, and love—a legacy that will continue to live on in every prayer whispered, every lesson remembered, and every heart she helped shape.
