The time came for Mother Edith Marie Coxfield to enter into eternal rest. The Lord carried His soldier on to glory on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA. She is now at peace and resting in the arms of the Lord. Known for her charismatic persona, she had a smile that would conquer many. Mother Coxfield was loved by those that she encountered upon the first interaction with her sweet and joyful spirit. In addition to the love that she had for her family and friends, she thoroughly enjoyed her little *fur baby', Miss Papa.
God granted her 84 blessed years on this side of Heaven and this beautiful Angel will now take her rest. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
Mother Coxfield was born to the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Hannah DeBerry on July 25, 1938 in Adel, GA. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Eddie B. Coxfield on July 6, 1957.
She was educated in the Cook County school system located in Adel, GA. She was a member of the Cook County Training School graduating class of 1956, where she achieved the scholastic honor of Valedictorian. She also attended and graduated from the Valdosta Technical Institute, where she earned a diploma in Secretary Science. In 2013, she was graciously honored with the Hall of Fame for the local Cook County region. She also was an active member of the Eastern Stars Pansy Chapter #119 OES and served as the District Secretary for the NAACP.
Mother Coxfield was a native of Cook County and began her Christian experience at an early age at the Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church located in Sparks, GA under the leadership of the late Pastor Robert Rhone. During this time, she served as the Sundav School Secretary and an active member of the choir. She later joined the Christian Fellowship Church in Adel, GA under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus, Willa Foster, succeeded by the leadership of Pastor Lisa Griffith. She continued to serve faithfully within this ministry as Pastor Foster's personal Secretary and as the Church's Secretary until her demise.
Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Pastor Alice M. Edwards; her son, Dea. Benjamin Stanford, Jr.; 3 brothers, Willie DeBerry, James DeBerry, and Joseph DeBerry; 2 sisters, Ms. Annie Mae Adkinson and Mrs. Gladys Jones, 1 son-in-law, Dea. Nathaniel Edwards; daughter-n-law, Laquiette Angelica Coxfield; 2 granddaughters, Little Miss Carlisha Latrelle Coxfield and Ms. Tamicca Yolanda Jones; and 1 grandson, Mr. Austin Miller.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, 4 sons, Michael Coxfield of Hahira, GA, Brian Coxfield and Wendell Coxfield (Ameeka), both of Adel, GA, and Ryan Coxfield of Moultrie, GA; 3 daughters, Bernadine Jones of Sparks, GA, Ruby Coxfield of Adel, GA, and Janice Stanford of Centerville, GA; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rosa Leggett of Montgomery, AL and Eleanor Wright of Adel, GA; 1 brother-n-law, Earl Jackson (Marva) of Sparks, GA; 1 sister-n-law, Darlene Coxfield of South Carolina; 6 god children, Loretta Pewee, Mary Edwards, Calvin Pewee, Will Pewee, and Roshaun Edwards, all of Sparks, GA and Clifford Adkins of Maryland.; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and sorrowing friends.
Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2022 from 5PM - 7PM at Christian Fellowship Church in Adel.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11A.M. at the Cook County Middle School cafeteria in Sparks, Georgia with Pastor Lisa Griffith officiating.
