Mrs. Joyce Thomas Brooks was born in Brooks County, Georgia on October 25, 1957, to the late Mr. Richard Thomas, Sr. and Mrs. Ida Jane Silas-Thomas.
Mrs. Joyce departed thislife on January 16, 2025, at Jackson Baptism in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. Joyce Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Thomas, Sr. and Ida Jane Silas-Thomas; her daughter, Tamiko Mobley; her granddaughter, Tiaja Mobley; her sister, Lillie V Hollis; stepsisters, Ann Cockfield and Jessie Mae Jordan;
her brothers, Robert Thomas, Sr., Sylvester Thomas, Sr., Billy James Thomas, George Thomas and Bob Thomas; aunts, Mandy Carnegie, Minnie Jenkins, Lillie West, Bertha Scott and Margaret Rogers; uncles, “Bubba Lee, Jr., George and Herbert
Silas; father-in-law, Eugene Brooks, Sr.; mother-in-law, Mrs. J Ruth Little Brooks; sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Demps, Minister Floria Mae Brooks, Jeanette Thomas and Juanita Thomas.
Mrs. Joyce Brooks received her formal education within the Brooks County School system in the year 1975. She went on a journey to find Christ and joined the Sunberry AME Church
where she enjoyed worship before moving her membership to
Friendship AME Church. There, she served faithfully on the Steward Board, Stewardess Board, Usher Board, Missionary Society and all committees whenever asked.
“Nanny”, as she was affectionately called by her loved ones, leaves to cherish her memories, her high school sweetheart and dedicated husband, Mr. Charles Brooks, Sr.; her children, Charles Brooks, Jr. (Shanema), Montrevious, Jr. and Ava
Brooks; grandchildren, Wilbert III, JoCorey Mobley, Tishera Brooks Reed, Chartavious Brooks and Montrevious Brooks, Sr.; great grandchildren; Zacyoriah Brooks, Ayla Reed and Jayden Watkins. She also leaves to mourn, her sister, Mamie Curtis and
brother, Willie Thomas, both of Quitman; brother, Henry Thomas of Tallahassee, FL; sisters-in-law, Wanda Thomas, Rock Anne Thomas, Luteisha Brooks-Clark (Crissy), Kathy Brooks; a
lovely family member, Bertha Brown; brothers-in-law, Eugene Brooks, Jr., James (Lillie) Brooks, Jeffery Brooks; a special godchild that she loved dearly, Bricelyn Hatchett “Tee Tee Baby”;
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends that
all loved her and will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11AM at Friendship AME Church. Burial will follow in Scott Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Dixie, GA. Livestream will be available on this website as well as our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page.
