Pastor Bobby Lenard Christian, Sr. was born on May 6, 1961 to the late Sam Christian, Sr. and the late Betty Christian Turner. He received his high school diploma from Brooks County High School in 1979. He received a Bachelor of Science in Theology and a Bachelors in Seminary in 2020.
Bobby was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Rita Marshall in May of 1980. To this union, two children were born, Latoya and Candice Christian. He later married Regina Christian. To this union, two children were born, Chelsea and Bobby Christian, Jr.
He gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in 1975 at the Laurel Street Church of Christ (Courtland Church of Christ) under the ministry of Minister Terrance McClain. He was very instrumental in the evangelistic works of the church in which he served as a bible school teacher, song leader, youth minister and in church leadership. While working in the various ministries in the church, he gained a strong desire to preach the gospel. In May of 2014, he was elected full time pastor of Calvary Christian Center until his passing. He loved and cherished his Calvarians. He was well-known for volunteer efforts in the community. He volunteered his time with the Brooks County Youth Center, The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, The Brothers Club and participated with his BCHS Class of 79’ and many outreach activities. Bobby, along with his twin brother Robby was well-known for singing and their vocal abilities as they traveled the country singing praises to the Lord. They formed the acapella group named “Children of the King,” which later became simply “The Christian Brothers”.
Bobby will be remembered for his love for his family, for the gospel, the love for others and his special gifts of song. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Mitchell; brothers, Sam Christian, Jr., Jimmy Christian, Herbert Snowball Nesmith; sistersin-law, Bonita Christian, Jackie Christian and Gale Christian.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his children, Shan Kimbrough, Tim McCloud, Latoya Montgomery (Benard), Candice Landrum (Greg), Chadrick Holloway (Jade), Tanglenika Harris, Chelsea Sneed (Jalen), Bobby Christian, Jr., SSG Courtney Mack, Stepson Andre Marshall (Lamarian); siblings, twin brother Robby Christian, Sr. (Tawanna), Gary Christian, Sr. (Stephanie), Terrance Christian (Rebecca), John Christian, Sr. and sister-inlaw Phyllis Nesmith. He also leaves to cherish his memories to his 22 grandchildren and 3 great grands; a special loving and devoted niece, Tasha Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, church mates and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 3PM-7PM.
Home going services will be Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Calvary Christian Center at 11AM. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
