Obituary For Pecolia Davis Pratt

Mother Pecolia Davis Pratt, daughter of the late James Davis and Albeteen Floyd Clark Jones, was born September 2, 1938 in Horry County, SC. She was the second oldest of nine siblings which six preceded her in death, Anna Clark Pagon, George Junior Jones, Estella Jones Gore, Walter “Dan” Jones, Roger Jones, and James “Jimmie” Jones. She was ready to go to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 12, 2025, when she passed peacefully while at home.

She attended the public school of Horry County and was a member of the St. John Freewill Baptist Church in Galivants Ferry, SC, where she found Christ at a young age.

Mother Pratt moved away to Miami, FL, where she met and married Buddy Davis who preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Mount Vernon MBC and the choir, serving as a devoted Christian member. Although Mother Pratt did not birth a child, she reared many to include her nephew Bernard Gibson that she adopted in 1972 who has preceded her in death. She later married George Pratt until he passed. She worked and retired from Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami with many accomplishments, while also being a Foster Grandparent for over ten years.

She moved to Georgia with her Florida family in tow. Upon arriving here in Quitman, she continued to do the Lord’s work, singing, and making others laugh. She joined Mt. Moriah MBC upon returning and later became a member of River Hill MBC where she was Baptized again. She received her Associate Degree of Ministry in 2007 which helped her continue to teach the gospel.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: one sister- Agnes (Willie) Davis; one brother – Calhoun Jones both of Aynor, SC; three sisters-in-law Shirley Jones and Virginia Jones of Horry County, and Geneva Jones of Sumter, SC. She cherished many but really cherished her Christian children Gail (Murray) Pickett, Dr. (Mrs.) Joe Troope, and her nephew Ronald Graham. She leaves kindness and unconditional love to her church members far and near, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at River Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia with Dr. Joe Troope officiating the eulogy. Burial followed at the Pallbearers Cemetery in Valdosta.
