Willie James Christian, fondly known as “Coot,” was born on March 10, 1943, in Dixie, Georgia, to Turner Christian Sr. and Annie Bell Sneed Christian. As the eldest of 14 children, Willie embraced leadership early in life—setting the tone for a lifetime of strength, service, and deep devotion to his family and community. Educated in the Brooks County, Georgia, school system and a graduate of Miami Dade County Community College, he became a strong leader and disciplinarian, which led him to pursue a career in law enforcement with the Miami Dade County Police Department.
But, his service didn’t stop there. A man of many skills and a tireless work ethic, Willie also built a legacy in landscaping and entrepreneurship.
Willie confessed Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith was firmly rooted.
On February 16, 1961, he married the love of his life, Corine Jackson. In their 64 years of marriage, they raised two beautiful daughters who brought happiness to their lives.
On May 29, 2025, after a life well lived, God called Willie home to eternal rest. His passing brings deep sorrow, but his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and devoted caregiver, Corine Jackson Christian; daughters, Morty and Maria Ann Christian; granddaughter, Cavonttey“Lisa” Jones; great-grandson, Marquis Jones; Brothers and Sisters: Carolyn Waters, Turner Lee, Leonard (Arunita), Jeffery (Patricia), and Frank (Chalinee), Miranda Hinton, Laura Miller, Jerome, Terrance; sisters-in-law, Jackie Frazier, Evangelist Annett Christian, and Alesia Christian; aunts and uncles, Louise Sneed, Eva Frazier, and Kenneth Sneed and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Turner L. Christian Sr. and Annie Bell Christian; grandparents, Pearlie and Abel Sneed; brothers, Herbert, Edward, Elvis, and Leroy; and cherished in-laws: Shugg and Mae Bertha Jackson, Cassandra, Joann, John, Louise, Carlean, Terrance, Addie, Wilson James, and Washington Frazier.
Willie James Christian fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). He now rests in perfect peace.
A celebration of life was Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 3PM at New Jersey Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Graham, officiating. Burial was followed in the Boston Cemetery.
