Alfred Owens, known affectionately by family and friends as Bomb or Big O, passed away at age 75 on Friday, February 26, 2021, in Queens, NY.
Al was born to Watson and Katie Owens in Mullins, South Carolina on May 6, 1945. He spent his formative years in Fort Pierce, Florida. He attended Lincoln Park Academy where he excelled in football. He departed for military service with the U.S. Army in 1966.
Al was married to fellow Fort Pierce native Maxine Bowe on June 16, 1973, in New York City where they raised 3 children.
Al worked as a Trackman and Machine Operator for the Long Island Rail Road for 25 years before his retirement. Throughout his life, Al enjoyed spending time fishing, gardening, and grilling.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Watson and Katie Owens, siblings Mary Grace Owens, Ed C. Owens, Geneva Parker, Karry Owens, and his son-in-law Michael Scriven.
Al is survived by his wife, Maxine, his daughters Veronica Scriven and Vanessa Owens both of Cincinnati, OH, and son Al (Brandi) Owens Jr. of Baltimore, MD, his grandchildren Elijah, Taejha, Anaya, Averi, and Braxton, his siblings General Lee Owens and LaVerne Owens (Patricia) of Harrisburg, PA, Ernestine Gathings of Syracuse, NY, Louise O. Robinson and Joyce Owens both of Fort Pierce, FL, and a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who will miss him very much.
