Obituary For Betty Jo Shaw

Betty Jo Shaw, For Betty J. Shaw affectionately called “Aunt (Aint) Betjo”, was the eleventh child born to union of the late Wesley and Pearl (Hayes) Shaw, on August 10, 1948.

Betty was a faithful member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in in Fort Pierce, Florida. She participated as a Youth Usher, attended Sunday School, and participated in the BTU under the leadership of the late Rev. R.J. Clifton.

Betty attended Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida. Upon completion, she relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1972, and attended Milwaukee Area Technical College to continue her studies.

Betty was united in holy matrimony to Willie James Haywood, November 1, 1966, until his passing in 1975.

Betty began her career at Briggs and Stratton on August 30, 1972, where she worked faithfully for 31 years. After a deep conversation with her sister Janice Mensah, Betty accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, on June 17, 1983. She later joined Lighthouse Gospel Chapel under the leadership of Pastor James Carrington.

On Mother’s Day of 1997, Betty visited and joined Holy Redeemer COGIC as a faithful member, under the leadership of Bishop Sedgwick Daniels.

Betty found a few things to do at Holy Redeemer. She worked as an usher, in the hospitality committee, and assisted the children’s church ministry. She also helped in the food pantry, worked as a missionary evangelist, and in the cancer care ministry. In 2018, she received a Distinguished Woman of the Year award. Her hobbies included reading, roller skating, babysitting (especially her grandsons), baking her homemade five-flavor pound cakes, and entertaining her family and friends.

She leaves to forever cherish in her memories and her love: daughter, Marlo Renee Shaw of Milwaukee, WI; two grandsons, Kirk Anthony Edwards II and Marlon Ramon Edwards,both of Milwaukee, WI; five godchildren, Jessica LaFlore, Camille Ross, Steven Ross, Stephanie Ross and Jaden Henry, all of Milwaukee, WI;siblings, Calvin Shaw ( Justine), David Scott, Carol Shaw, Rev. Harry J. Shaw (Bulah), Miriam V. Shaw, all of Fort Pierce, FL, Charles Shaw(Marie) of Orlando, FL and Janice Mensah (Dominic) of Westerville, OH. She also leaves a host of four generations of nieces and nephews, many cousins, family members and special friends.

Public visitation for Betty Shaw will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10:00am-11:00am at Good News Missionary Baptist Church. A service of remembrance will follow at 11:00am in the sanctuary of Good News Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL.
