Obituary For Billie Joe Tolbert

Billie Joe Tolbert was born on September 19, 1944, in Tifton, Georgia to the late Ronald Kendrick Tolbert and Sarah Louise Tolbert (Slatter). He departed this life on July 6, 2022.

In 1952 at the tender age of 8, his family moved to Fort Pierce, Florida. Billie also fondly called “TAB” during his football playing years at Lincoln Park High School where he graduated in 1964. He was awarded a football scholarship to attend Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. Billie later attended Indian River College where he studied Brick Masonry. As a certified Mason, he was hired as a supervisor by General Development Corporation and built homes in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Some years later Billie relocated to Miami, Florida and spent years perfecting his craft constructing many of the buildings seen in the downtown Miami area even today. Billie took great pride in his work and accomplishments, but his ultimate pride and joy was his family. He loved them dearly and taking time to encourage the younger generation to make sound and wise choices was a passion of his. Sharing testimonies with friends, family and neighbors alike was important to him and he was sure to make the time for all who would listen. Billie loved God and could be found most mornings under the big tree in his yard, sipping coffee, reading his beloved Bible, and talking to neighbors. He was a fun guy with a giant heart, perfect smile and a warm personality who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by both parents R. K. and Sarah Tolbert, a son Demarcus Dawson, brothers, Perry, Douglas, and Charles Tolbert. Sisters, Ann Reddick, Catherine Benjamin, and Florida Jean Walker.

Those left to cherish his loving memories, sons Billy Joe (Debra) Brooks, Byron (Sharon) Tolbert, Vito (Latasha) Mensah, daughters, April Carr, Marchina Tolbert (Patrick) Jones, Ellinor Dawson, Deborah Jean Dawson, Jennie (Mark) Hollin, Cynthia Dawson, Linda Dawson, Brenda Dawson, Anissa (James) Scott, Kimberly Dawson; his baby brother Herman Tolbert; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and god-children.

Public visitation for Billie Joe Tolbert will take place on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
