Obituary For Bishop Willie James Gordon

Bishop Dr. Willie James Gordon, was born January 10, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bishop Harry Gordon and Dorothy Townsend. He was the second of seven children from this union.

Bishop Dr. Willie James Gordon attended schools in the St. Lucie County ,Philadelphia and New Jersey School System. A lover of all sports, but a passion for football and basketball; He graduated from Ft. Pierce Central High School in 1973 with a football championship in 1971. He was given the nickname “Horse” by his teammates due to his strength as a defensive guard. He furthered his football career at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU).

After dating for 3 years, Bishop James Gordon and Brenda Smith were joined in holy matrimony on April 1, 1988. During their years of marriage, they had a unique blended family of 8 children; from their union they birthed two children.

They were partners in every way as they navigated through the facets of their life together; worshipping, traveling, enjoying quality time with family, fishing, and spending time with special friends.

Through life challenges, victories and faith in God; James & Brenda built a bond that allowed them to triumph and share 34 amazing years together. Mrs. Gordon will immensely miss the love of her life, best friend, and life partner.

Bishop James had many trades and was skillful in many areas to include trucking, entrepreneurship and mentoring. He had a love for sports, but he particularly had a deep passion for basketball and football. Known for his competitive nature on the court, he mentored his children.

Bishop James Gordon, received the knowledge and tutelage of Christ as a child at an early age. He was reared and baptized at Tabernacle Church of Deliverance Fort Pierce FL, where he attended until becoming an adult. As he sailed through life, he drifted against the current, but never lost God. Bishop James rededicated his life to Christ in 1988,there he progressed to a “fisher of souls.”

He preached his trial sermon at Tabernacle Church of Deliverance, Fort Pierce, FL, under the leadership of his father, the late Bishop Harry Gordon where he served a lead deacon, choir director and then he answered the call as an ordained minister. In 2006, he sailed on to begin his pastoral journey of service. In 2008 God gave him a vision, United Family Affair Association (Fellowship) to unite churches together in fellowship. In 2012 he extended his ministry by founding Family Affair Worship Center. He completed his charge as the visionary of United Family Affair Association (Fellowship) and pastored both Tabernacle Church of Deliverance and Family Affair Worship Center Inc.

Those who also preceded him in death are his father, Bishop Harry Gordon; son, Willie Gordon Jr.; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Loving family left to continue his legacy are his devoted wife of 34 years, Brenda Gordon; mother, Dorothy Gordon; mother-in-law, Marie Scott; daughters, Kimberlan(Willie)Hullett, Genobia(James)King, Shakerra Gordon, Sabrina(Sean)Hendley, Ja’Nesia Broadnax; sons, Curtis(Rajini)Gordon, Benjamin(Anna)White Gordon; grandchildren, Anya Plummer, Elise Thomas, Mary Gordon, Antoinette Davis, Kyana Gordon, and Markquiesha Gordon, Curtis Gordon Jr , Christopher Gordon, Rajhad Gordon, Rayanee Gordon, Jamir Gordon, Jinari Gordon, Dhurani Gordon, Saanti Gordon, Ethan Hendley, Javon Wilson, Kaleb Bertrand, Ahmarion Cooks, Keana Howard; host of great grands; brothers, Larry Gordon, Timothy (Linda) Gordon, Anthony (Ayisha) Gordon; sisters, Harriet(Earnest)Gordon Staley, Jacqueline (Michael)Williams, Zara (Terrance) Greenlaw; brothers-in-law, Freddie (Bridget) Smith, Melvin(Tomasena)Scott, Marvin Scott, Johnny(Hycinth)Scott; sister-in-law, Linda(Carson)Culver; host of nieces and nephews; aunts, Margaret Strachan, Essie Derrick, Elizabeth Graham, Dorothy Townsend; uncle, Charles Gordon; dedicated friend, Robert Smith.

Bishop James Gordon, slept on as he transitioned to his heavenly home whilst surrounded by those he loved dearly on Friday, June 17,2022 at 12:38 pm. He leaves to cherish his memory his treasured wife, his legacy, a host of extended family and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.

Home Going Services will convene on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the River of Life Fellowship in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:00pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 beginning at 5pm.Burial will immediately follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff. We ask that you respect this, as it could very well save your life. We also ask that you acknowledge and execute the 6 feet social distancing guidelines as well.
