Dorothy “Dot” Jean Moore Singletary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world on December 27, 2021 at age 86. She was born to Avery and Bessie Moore.
Dot attended public schools in Fort Pierce, Florida and graduated high school from Lincoln Park Academy. She also attended Florida A&M University. On June 24, 1956 she united in marriage to her 5th grade sweetheart, the late Charles Edward Singletary. To this union five children were born: Sandra Kay, Charles Jr., Kimberly, Craig, and Dana.
At an early age she accepted Christ into her life and joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hugh Brockington. Even though she travelled around the world, she never forgot her Christian roots. She was always involved in a church and Christian service. This included founding and directing Boy’s Free and participation in one of her favorite ministries, the Tree Ministry. She felt at peace and was joyful sitting outside under a tree talking about God with ladies from the church and community. “Sister Sing” loved putting on her big hats to greet the Lord on Sunday morning. She had a positive impact on the lives of family, friends, church members, and many in the community. Though she is gone, she will not be forgotten.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Bessie Moore, her beautiful sister Lillie Louise Campbell, and her beloved husband, Charles Edward Singletary.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Sandra Kay (Emmanuel) Collins of Louisville, KY; Charles (Angeline) Singletary Jr. of Fort Pierce, FL; Kimberly Trammell of Dayton, Ohio; Craig Singletary of Statesboro, GA; and Dana King of Cocoa, FL. She also leaves her grandchildren: Chason Marks, Charles (Charsea) Edward Singletary III, Kayla Trammell, Tiye (Joshua) Huertas, Deah King, John King Jr., Mia Williams-Hunt, Dan (Veronica) Darrisaw II, Diego (Latasha) Darrisaw, Kim Walker, and Brian (Denise) Walker. Dot has 24 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her godson, Lewis Rice, III. She also leaves to fondly remember her a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. We are thankful for the precious memories of “Dot” and will truly, truly miss her! Rest in Peace “Dot!”
Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Singletary will convene on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 9:00am.
