Edward Blenford Virgil was born on Major’s Cay Crooked Island, Bahamas on September 27, 1934 to the late Prestley Virgil and Elizabeth Ferguson. After the death of his mother, his grandmother, Admiria Ferguson, raised him and his younger brother. “Ben” as he was affectionately called attended the All-Aged School on Crooked Island. At the age of fourteen, he left Crooked Island and moved to Nassau to live with his Aunt Lolitha until the age of nineteen when he decided to come to the United States on contract in 1955 and resided in Fort Pierce, FL.
While living there, he met his wife Freddie Boone in 1956 and they married in 1958. The union of this marriage produced six children.
He was preceded in death his parents, Prestley Virgil and Elizabeth Ferguson; grandparents, James and Admiria Ferguson; brothers, William McPhee and Lamuel Virgil; son-in-law, Dallas Reed; daughter-in-law, Peggy St. Claire.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Freddie Virgil; daughters, Debra Williams of Fort Pierce, FL, Desiree(Bennie)Young of Fort Pierce, FL; Bridget Virgil Reed of Fort Pierce, FL, Yolanda(James)Moss of Fort Pierce, FL/Bahamas; sons, Lorenza Virgil of Minot, ND, William(Teri)Virgil of Anchorage, AK; adopted son and daughter, Winston(Melissa)Bonaby, Jr. and Gloria L. Tucker; sister, Brenda(Freddie)Mackey of Nassau, Bahamas; sisters-in-law, Katherine Corbett of Pooler, GA, Carolyn(William)Barnett of Decatur, GA, Brenda McPhee of Nassau, Bahamas; brother-in-law, Bernard Bain of Sodus Point, NY; grandchildren, Reynard(Rosalyn)Williams, Shay(James)Lewis, Lashonta Gantt, Natasha Virgil, John Williams, Alethea Virgil, Shakera(Daniel)Rush, Tara(Al)Lewis, Rebecca Reaves, William Virgil II, Kristal Reed, James(Akesha)Moss, Jr., Tishonda Bryant, Rheanna Moss, Shanelle Virgil; 17 great grandchildren; special friends, Ulysses Neal and Freddie Ghent; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Public visitation for Edward Virgil will take place on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
