Obituary For Evelyne A. Crandon

Evelyne A. Crandon believed in God. She drew her strength from that belief, and she used that strength to work for the Glory and Honor of God.

Evelyne passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital in Port St. Lucie, Florida. God called Evelyne home and our family sadly lost a Pillar, a Beloved Mother, Wife, Sister, Aunty, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Aunt, Cousin and a Friend.

Evelyne was born in New Amsterdam, Guyana, to the late Alberta (Ruby) Angus and James (Uncle Mack) Whinfield on August 31, 1944. Evelyne grew up in Belladrum, and moved to Georgetown to attend Georgetown Academy School where she graduated in 1962. Later that year, Evelyne immigrated to England where she embarked on her studies at Ham Memorial Nursing School. She graduated with a degree in Nursing and relocated to the United States. Evelyne worked for several years as a Nurse in Philadelphia and in 1976, moved to Brooklyn, New York. Evelyne worked at Brooklyn Hospital as a Pediatric Nurse until she retired in 2004.

Evelyne met her husband Winston Crandon in Georgetown, Guyana before leaving to pursue her studies abroad. Their romance spanned over fifty years of which they were married for forty-five years. Winston joined Evelyne in 1979, to begin their life together in Brooklyn, New York.

To know mommy, Aunty Pansy, Sister Pansy, is to love and admire her. She was the cornerstone of our family, a beautiful, devout Seventh- Day Adventist. Mom was a God- fearing woman who trained her children and all those who came into contact with her to love and serve the Lord. Mom was a prayer warrior, and a true and consummate Christian. She dedicated her life to serving God which she did diligently from the time she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. We recall Mom being the “On Call Nurse” at Church, a Deaconess, The Assistant Choir Director, The Choir Director, The Sabbath School Superintendent, The Women Ministries Director, while holding down a rigorous work schedule and still being a loving wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend. You could talk to mom for hours. She touched the lives of many with her unconditional love, generosity, her spirituality, and kindness. She never forgot a name, never hesitated to stop and say a prayer, and knew how to make light of any situation. Additionally, mom opened her heart and doors to everyone. Her only supplication was you had to observe the Sabbath, participate in daily worship services, and attend Church on the Sabbath. She will be forever missed.

Besides serving God, Evelyne loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. At any given point in time, you could call Evelyne and she would answer her phone from Florida, Maryland, Ohio or New York. Evelyne also loved to travel, read, and scour the internet for Guyana news.

Evelyne is survived by her loving husband Winston Crandon, Children: Shemica Crandon (Elton Tull), Michael Crandon (Cenella), Rox Anne Crandon, Ronald Crandon (Patricia), Roxanne Crandon, Vanessa Crandon (Larrie Romage), Andre Crandon (Jacqueline), Andel (Tracy), Wilmot, Sharon Henry (Carlos), David Crandon(Michelle Maxwell), Gavin Crandon and Winston Crandon, Raynaud Crandon. Siblings: Dr. Ivor Angus (Marva), Desire McBean (Clifford Senior), Beverly Narteh (Solomon), Maurice Whinfield (Marjorie), Kaymal Whinfield (Linden Rose). Mom is predeceased by her brother, Wayne. Evelyne is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends in the US, London, and Guyana. We will all miss her dearly and will continue to live out her legacy. Rest assured that we will see you again, mom in Glory.
