The life story of James Vickers, Jr. began on June 3, 1936. He was born to loving parents, James and Gussie Vickers.
During Mr. Vickers' childhood, he received his education by attending the public schools of Saint Lucie County. He retired with over 26 years of active duty in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard Reserve. He worked 30 years as a mechanic for Saint Lucie County Schools. He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church for 25 years. James was a servant of God serving on the Trustee Board, Men's Chorus, and President of the Men's Usher Board.
He married his loving and caring wife, Martha Plowden Vickers, and they remained married for 43 years until Mr. Vickers' death.
On Friday, June 4, 2021, James Vickers, Jr. quietly closed his eyes and went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gussie Vickers; sisters, Ida Mae Mosley, Earline Davis, Grace Vickers Woods; brothers, Rudolph McKinney, Nathaniel McKinney, and Albert Vickers.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Martha Vickers; children, Angela(Harry)Riggins, James(Renee)Vickers, Carol(Derrick)Jackson, Millette Vickers, Carnell Plowden, Mary Slater, Sherri(Robert)Brown, and Darin(Kenya)Slater; adopted daughter, Pennie(Leroy)Brisco; twenty-two grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; two brother, Charles(Deborah)Henry and Joseph(Catherine)Henry; sister, Pastor Genevieve(Gary)Salter; four sisters-in-law, Mary(Richard)Hammonds, Beatrice Plowden, Mable(James)Spann, and Virginia Vickers; three brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Plowden, Douglas(Cynthia)Plowden, and Leroy Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
Public viewing for James Vickers, Jr. will take place on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral Services will convene on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Fort Pierce, FL.
