Obituary For Johnnie Mae Major

Johnnie Mae Clark Henderson Major affectionately known as “Nana” was born November 15, 1932 in Vero Beach, FL. She was educated in Indian River County Public School system and graduated from Gifford High School in 1949.

After moving her family to New Britain, Connecticut in 1972, she returned home in 1987 and worked as a cashier at Dollar General and as a patient caregiver at Indian River Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement.

Nana had an infectious smile! She loved to fish, dance, and “oversee” our neighborhood weekend pokeno games. However, she was best known for her culinary skills, as everyone wanted her to make those delicious “pigeon peas and rice.”

On July 10, 2021, with family and caregivers at her bedside, she passed from life to eternity. She was preceded her husbands, Eddie Clark and John Major; son, Stevie Clark; parents, P.J & Willie Mae McGriff and Johnny Henderson; brother, James Green; grandson, Richard “Lil Rick” Morgan; daughters-in-law, Carolyn Clark and Brenda Clark; sons-in-law, Richard Morgan and Arthur Andrews, Jr.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Constance Morgan, Belinda Stewart(George), Edwina Clark, Anthony Clark, and Stephon Major; 25 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; a dedicated grandson, Arthur Andrews III; special caregivers, Conception Flores and Plynie Tory; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Public visitation for Johnnie Major will take place on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Vero Beach, FL.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
