When most people described Judith Ann Grier- “sweet, kind, honest, caring, or simply the best”, were at the top of the list. God chose to place Judi (as she preferred), in the hands of the late Benjamin Grier and the late Sylvia Rogers Person on August 20, 1954. As the second eldest of six (6) children, Judi quickly and naturally assumed the role of nurturer and caretaker. Growing up in the Gifford community, the family instilled the importance of God, family, and education into Judi at an early age. Judi was so smart that the first-grade teachers fought to have her in their respective classes. Throughout her educational career, Judi became well known for her infectious spirit, humongous heart, and beautiful smile.
Throughout her twenties, Judi lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel and being in the company of family and good friends. She was often described as the life of the party and truly enjoyed having good, old-fashioned fun! While living in her beloved hometown for the majority of her life, Judi became active in her community- lending a helping hand whenever and wherever possible, and truly believed in being a cheerful giver. She worked many jobs throughout the community, but was mostly remembered for her presence as an Admissions Clerk for Indian River Memorial Hospital where she worked for 17 years.
As she grew older and wiser, Judi honed in on her passions and realized what were the most important things in her life. She inherited a natural ability for cooking (which she learned from her mother), and loved researching how spices and herbs could benefit the mind and spirit. She found great joy in crafting, decorating, and creating- a gift she often shared with others. Judi had exquisite taste and loved to make things beautiful. She would often joke that it wouldn’t pay for her to be rich, because she would spend it all giving it to those in need and buying them nice things. But what she found to be her greatest joys were the faithfulness of God and her love of family. She became an active member of her church, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist, in which she served many roles. Although she loved to help in any way, being in the church choir was a duty she fulfilled faithfully throughout her life.
With family at the center of her heart, Judi became a mother in 1985 and she welcomed her first and only daughter, Amber; following with the birth of her only son, Leonard, in 1991. Even though these two were hers, she already had a village of “other children” that consisted of nieces, nephews, cousins, and children of family friends that would always keep her near to their hearts. Judi had a love for children like no other, and would never say no to a child in need. She would often give her last dollar to help out others, and she would always say: “God is faithful, and He will always make a way”. She made sure to spread this Gospel to her children and anyone else that would listen.
On November 17, 2021, her earthly duties came to an end and she passed away with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her children, granddaughter, siblings, and a host of incredibly close family and friends. Although she will be terribly missed, those that knew her best knew that all Judi wanted to hear was God to say: “Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant!"
Memorial services will convene on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL beginning at 1:00pm.
