Obituary For Kenneth Eugene Stevens

Kenneth Eugene Stevens, “Kenny”, 61, of Fort Pierce, Fl, passed away on February 4, 2019 at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, Fl after a long-term battle with his health. He was born in Madison, Fl, a little town of just over 3000 people, that is designated one of the “Best little towns in Florida, on June 10, 1957, as the 5 th of 11 children, to the late Willie Stevens, Jr. and Eula Mae (Long) Stevens. He had fond memories of living in Madison, and often talked of going back to visit his home town. He spent his elementary school years at Madison County School. On Thanksgiving Day, 1969, while in the 6 th grade, Kenneth and his family moved to Fort Pierce, Fl. In Fort Pierce, Kenneth continued his education at Lincoln Park. Upon completion, he, being a devoted son, decided to enter the work force to help his mom. His mother’s motto was “either you carry an arm full of books or an arm full of work”. So, he decided to carry an arm full of work by joining the local workers to pick tomatoes. Later, in 1976, Kenneth began working at Clint Davis Company, a plastic company, where he was a foreman in the plastic bag department for many years. After his time there, he moved on to work with Sunshine Mirrors, as a mirror technician, where he was considered excellent at his craft. As he grew into manhood, Kenneth had always said to his siblings, he would marry someone who looked like his Aunt Lou. She was very beautiful to him, with a dark complexion. And that he did, when, in 1974, he met Wanda (Howard) Stevens. Kenneth and Wanda were married on November 8, 1975, and to this union were born three lovely children Sheon Stevens Hollman, Kenneth “Morrell” Stevens, Jr. and Cornelius Eugene Stevens. Kenneth was a lively man who was full of life. He always spoke positive of himself, often jokingly indicating that “when God made him, he broke the mold”. He was funny and often amused others with his unique style of dance “Sop the Syrup”, and coined phrases ending with “Dawg”. His house was the go-to house when you wanted a good time, laughing, joking and dancing to the turns of his favorite artist, James Brown. He also loved a good game of dominoes. He enjoyed several hobbies which included Deejaying, Bass fishing, Rabbit hunting, collecting scraps, watching wrestling and building table benches. Growing up, he was a member of House of God Pillar Ground in Truth and in later years attended Rock Church International. He even spoke of his affiliation with the Masons. He also was the founder of a group, he led, called “The Horseman”, which consisted of Phil “Master of Funk” Peak, Reuben “Rubob” Smith, Earl “Master of Love” Carter and Felton “Master of Soul” Boswell. The Horsemen were a group of dapper men who loved cowboy fashion and the comradery of doing good deeds. He instilled in them to always “Dress with Dignity”. His signature dress style included Cowboy hat, a huge statement belt buckle and distinguished cowboy boots. Thus, he was affectionately, widely known as “Cowboy Kenny”. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Lee Hughes, Willie “Danky” Stevens, Christopher Alvin Stevens, Donald “Randy” Durant Stevens, David “Da-do” Jonathan Stevens and Jeffrey Allen Stevens; a devoted companion Christine Pratt Jones, with whom he fathered 1 lovely son Kendarius Stevens, a surrogate son Corey L. Jones; and a granddaughter Soraya Morgynn Stevens. Left to cherish his memories, as a doting father, are his children, Sheon (Lamar), Morrell (Cathy), Cornelius (Monique) and Kendarius Stevens; surrogate children Echzavia (KeeKee) Jones, Zachreah(Tanisha) Jones. His grandchildren Kylan Stevens, Jordynn Stevens, Jaylen Hollman, Kenneth “KC” Stevens, Kamron Hollman, Cornell Stevens, Caleb Stevens and Magnolia Stevens. His surrogate grandchildren Zy’torria Jones, Zachreah Jones, Jr and Justin Jones. Surviving Siblings include Collie Edward Stevens (Marcia), Debra Ann (Stevens) Harris (Terry), Rodney “Cool” Bruce Stevens (Thelma), Vincent Clyde Stevens (Zena), Elbert Irvine and Tessie Thompkins. And a Longtime friend Mary R. Brooks. Memories will also be cherished by a plethora of other loving relatives including uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, in-laws, godchildren and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Stevens will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00pm at Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will immediately follow in Riverview Memorial Park in Fort Pierce, FL.
