Obituary For Leola Latimer

The sun rose on Leola Wright - “Sue Baby,” August 13, 1926, to Felix Wright and Ida McKaye in Tifton, Georgia. Leola did not receive a formal education, her loving husband, “Paul” whom she married in 1943 taught her the fundamentals and these fundamentals secured her family’s favor for generations to come. Leola had a passion for cooking and cleaning. In her eyes, no one could do them better! More importantly, Leola loved her family. Her loyalty and love for family went unmatched and undisputed. Protecting, defending, and upholding the family made her heart beat. The sun set on Leola the morning of May 15, 2020, after a gradual decline in health.

Giving that the love of life was a Prince Hall Master Mason, Leola became a member of the Heroines of Jericho, an organization whom Masonic purpose is promoting friendship and charity, relieving suffering, and promoting moral, social, spiritual, and intellectual self-improvement. Leola lived by these tenants and embodied the tenants through her service, love, and hospitality she had for others. Leola will no longer cry out, “Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

Leola was an active member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Fellsmere, FL. Here, she took pride in assisting in the kitchen with Sunday dinners being served after Sunday services. Although she could not attend in her latter years, her relationship with the Lord remained steadfast, which we all witnessed given her 93 years on this side. Leola’s longevity is a testament to her virtue.

Cherishing her precious memories is son (and spouse): Charles A. Latimer (Juanita) of Sebastian, FL, Granddaughters: Lira M. Latimer of Tallahassee, FL, Tara L. Penny (Reggie) of Conyers, GA, Tammy L. King-Thomas (Ishaq) of Farmersville, TX; Grandsons: Rashunn Hill (Sonya) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Timothy Latimer of Sebastian, FL, Willie Roy Harden, Jr. (Joanna) of Sebastian, FL, Kennedy T. Green of Conyers, GA, Michael P. Green (Nancy) of Boone, NC; Sister: Frances Williams of Newark, NJ and a host of great grands, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding her in death are loving husband Ralph E. Latimer, Sr., son Ralph E. Latimer, Jr. (Jessie), and grandson Allen D. Green “Ray” and Siblings: Mary Julia Hillmon, Nathan Wright, Willie Otis Wright, John Wright, and Sally Mallory.

Public visitation for Leola Latimer will take place on Friday, May 22, 2020 by way of our drive-thru in the rear of Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Vero Beach, FL between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm. A graveside service commemorating her life will commence on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Fellesmere Brookside Cemetery in Fellesmere, FL beginning at 1:00pm.
