Obituary For Mother Florette Bond Smith

Mother Florette Smith was born March 3, 1934 in Richsquare, NC (Bertie County) to the late Dank Smith and Mary Peterson.

Florette was known to many as “Flora.” She was reared by her grandparents, the late Shade and Spicy Jacobs in Richsquare, NC as a child. She received her education in Richsquare, NC. She later moved to Fort Pierce, FL with her husband, the late Alfonzo Bond, Sr. To this union nine children were born. Flora was a longtime resident of Fort Pierce, FL for over 60 years. She was gainfully employed for 35 years with the Coca Cola Company(Minute Maid). After retiring, she worked with St. Nicholas’ Greek Church with friend Rena Lucas.

Her walk with God began at her home church in Chapel Hill, NC. Later she joined Springfelle Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Finally, she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher and church mother under the leadership of Dr. HW White. She served the church for 30 years. Her church was her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Alfonzo Bond; son, Jimmy Bond; brothers, Eddie and Steve Peterson; sisters, Sarah, Melissa, Pearline, Ethel; special friend, Doris McKinney

Those left to cherish her loving smile are her sons, James Smith, Robert Bond, Sr., Bobby(Ruth)Bond, Venny Lee Bond; daughters, Lucie Bond Richards, Betty(Mark)Bond Gabriel of Atlantic City, NJ, Barbara(Thernell)Mills, Venny Mae(Horace)Bond; sister-in-law, Cora(Bae)Booker; grandchildren, Tawanna Smith, Degarian Smith, Delgard Newkirk, Robert Bond, Jr., Shawntonio Bond, Keyante Bond, Sherryese Boyotte Moss, Shawntonio Boyette, Marcus Gabriel, Cherelle Bond, David Molton, Thernell Mills, Jr., Antonio Mills, Catherine Mills, Marea Mills, Tyriek Ganious, Trudy Walker, Joe Thomas, Waketa D. Bond, Andre Lewis, Anthony Lewis III; 56 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; godson, Brandell Jones; goddaughter, T Reed; best friends, Verdell Fox, Ruth Pitman, Ann Kitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Public visitation for Mother Florette Bond Smith will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
