Obituary For Rose A. Walker

June 8, 1936 was a bright, sunny Monday when Rosetta gave birth to her and Benjamin’s third daughter, Rose Ann. Soon they took this bundle of joy home to her waiting sisters, Christine and Jervene. The birth of their fourth and final sister, Evelyn made this family complete. Rosetta and Benjamin Wright raised these girls and they grew up in the Mount Olive Baptist church where Rose Ann was baptized. The sisters formed a gospel group known as “The Wright Sisters”.

Rose Ann matriculated in the St. Lucie County school system and graduated from Lincoln Park High School in the Class of 1956 which was the largest class to graduate at that time.

Upon graduation, she went to work in New Jersey at the McGuire Air Force Base. There she met and married Arthur Washington. The two decided they were better as friends and she returned to Fort Pierce where she became a licensed beautician and a Cosmetology instructor at IRCC. Eventually she opened her own salon where she developed a faithful clientele that she styled until her retirement. She was still determined to give love a chance, and she later married Willie Walker.

Rose Ann experienced happy times and trying times but none of her time was more joyous than when she gave birth to her four children: Rosetta, Michael, Yolanda, and Marcellous. She was determined to be an example of Christianity and virtue. She taught by example and made sure her children saw her love for God in action. She served in several church offices including Pastor at EPC Pentecostal House of Prayer and as an associate pastor at Resurrection Life Family Worship Center.

She was an avid reader and after retirement, she developed a passion for puzzles, word searches, traveling and sitting by the water enjoying the sun. She could often be found at the 2nd Street Farmer’s Market enjoying the sights and foods on display. She always wanted the best for her children, and she was right there to experience the joy as her oldest child, Rosetta married the love of her life, James Bartell, over ten years ago. James has played an integral part in James played an integral part in making sure she was cared for, and that her needs were met.

As she grew frail, her family was there to care for her. She was especially blessed to have her grandson, Josiah, who was there to satisfy her culinary desires by happily cooking for her and making sure she knew how much she was loved.

Left to cherish her memories are her only remaining sibling: Christine Waters of Albany, GA.; Children Rosetta(James)Bartell, Michael Washington, Yolanda Walker, Marcellous(Khamillah Ameenah)Walker; Grandchildren-Daniel Washington, Jessica Bartell, Victoria Bartell, Antrecia Richardson, Michaela Washington, Michael Washington, Brenton Lindsey, Brianna Singletary, Josiah Singletary, Saffiyyah Walker, Saleemah Walker, Ismaaeel Walker, Muhammad Walker, Walleed Walker, Mekieel Walker, and Jabriel Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends of the family.

A Funeral Service for Ms. Rose A. Walker will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at River of Life Fellowship Church, 3950 Juanita Avenue, Fort Pierce, Florida - Rev. Vernon Shazier, Host Pastor. A visitation will take place from 3 - 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Pierce.
