Obituary For Rosie Dawson

Rosie Mae Dawson (“Ms. Rose”) was born the youngest of 4 siblings to the late parents of Joe and Henrette Griffin Bartee in Quitman Georgia, where she received her basic education in the public schools.

At a young age due to divorced parents, here father remarried and to this union she had a half- sister and a half-brother. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death. In her early years, Ms. Rose (as she was known to her family and neighbors) was united in marriage with her first husband Elois Goins and to this union were born 4 children. Ms. Rose later married Madison Dawson (“Matt” - The Greens Man). She was preceded in death by her son Charles Bennet Goins and her husband Matt.

Ms. Rosie made the move from Georgia to Florida in 1957 and soon after became one of the first ole pioneers of the Smith Plaza community where she lived until the Lord called her home. She was a member of the old family church, The New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Oslo, Florida where she attended until her health began to fail.

During her life, Ms. Rosie was a domestic worker and was also well known in the area for her vegetable garden that she maintained for many years mostly as a hobby, but which also served her well as way of making a living. Ms. Rosie embraced her later years of life by sitting on her front porch entertaining her friends and neighbors and enjoying the children as they played in the streets in front of her house.

Rosie leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Delois Buckner and Lula Jenkins both of Vero Beach, FL, her son George Goins, her nine step-children; 19 grand-children and host of great grand-children, numerous friends and relatives.

A Visitiation for Ms. Dawson will be held on Friday, January 3, 2019 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. William Bradley - from 5 - 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2019 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will take place in Gifford Cemetery.
