Mr. Willy James “Billy” Williams, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mark Matten and Ellen Jones Williams was born in Waynesboro—Burke County, Georgia on June 18, 1921. He departed his earthly fulfilled life on December 11, 2019.
Mr. Williams coming from his military services in 1946 embarked on attending Walker’s Business School and later entering Bethune-Cookman College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Williams’ first business venture was ‘Williams Tailoring Shop’ at the corner of 8th street and Avenue C. Later he acquired properties on Avenue E and 18th street and was still there for 68 years. Later adding dry cleaning and alterations; two years later, men’s clothing and then he ventured in to general clothing. He was assisted in the business by his mother, sister, his wife Allie Mae, and their sister-in-law Clareitha. Besides Williams Department Store, owned and operated by him and Mrs. Allie Mae Sirmons Williams for 55 years.
Mr. Williams was known for his outstanding contribution throughout the community. He was involved in various organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Council Coordinator for the Small Business Center, Real Estate Salesman and Realtor. He was the chairman of the Biracial Community, president of the Indian River Investment Corp., Sunday School teacher at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. R. J. Clifford and Rev. Howard Coleman.
He was preceded in death by both of his wife of 55 years Allie Mae Sirmons Williams, his youngest son Laurence Othello Williams, his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Left to cherish his memories are his three sons, Willy James Jr., Mark Hilkhial Yvonne, Bernard Lee; two daughters, E. Syrelda(Johnny Sr.), Cynthia Yaterria; brother-in-laws, Fred(Doris)Sirmons, Jonas(Clareitha)Sirmons, Neal(AriRenee)Sirmons, Sarah Jones, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins-in-law, neighbors, and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
Public visitation for Willy Williams will take place on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce, FL.
