It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Carol Elaine Deering.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Carol “Elaine” Deering heard the voice of Jesus saying, “Come unto Me and rest; lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon My breast.” The second of six children, Carol “Elaine” Deering was born on July 7, 1960, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Violet Young Washington and the late Thelmon Washington, Sr. She was educated in the Leon County public school system and graduated from Leon High School. In 1981, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Florida A&M University. She later pursued graduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, where she received a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering in 1991. Elaine accepted Christ at an early age and began her Christian journey as a member of Shady Grove #1 Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Moses Harrison. In later years, she became a devoted member of Mission Road Church of God in Christ, where she faithfully served as an usher and leader of the Married Couples Ministry. In her leisure time, Elaine enjoyed bike riding, reading, traveling, and, most of all, spending quality time with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Thelmon “Buddy” Washington, and her brother, TerryWashington. Elaine leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving mother, Violet Young Washington; her devoted husband of 33 years, Winfred Deering; three children — sons, Dishon Deering (Orlando, FL) and Nahshon Deering (Charlotte, NC), and daughter, Keturah Deering (Orlando, FL); her sister, Valarie Washington Cooper (Tampa, FL); three brothers — Melvin (Alice) Washington, Sr. (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Thelmon (Lakeisha) Washington, Jr. (Tallahassee, FL), and Anthony (Tiffany) Washington (Orlando, FL); along with a host of cherished uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. THURSDAY, May 15, 2025 at St. Phillip A.M.E. Church, 6200 Centerville Road with burial at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
On behalf of the staff and management of Strong & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Carol Elaine Deering.

Janice Cornwell sent Mixed flowers in a handled basket for Carol Elaine Deering - May 13, 2025
Our deepest condolences and prayers for the entire family, friends, la Rosa Family and all her brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. Elaine will be forever missed. She will always be part of our morning devotions at La Rosa Realty. Seeing Elaine on the prayer call every morning was very uplifting and encouraging. She was a mighty warrior for Christ and a Kingdom builder. Her warmth and caring was always felt even though we were not face to face, She prayed for those in need many times when she was struggling herself on some of those mornings. A true Woman of God and a blessing to me to have met and get to know Elaine over these past years. We rest knowing that absent from the body is to be present with the LORD in Paradise. Until we meet again, we will continue to intercede for your amazing family members. May the Peace of God guard and keep Carol Elaine Deering loved ones in Christ Jesus.
My sister in Christ Jesus! You are a blessing to me in our Prayer call every morning! Your sweet voice and words of wisdom will be in my heart forever ♥️! Save me a dance in Heaven!
My earliest memory of cousin Elaine was as a child. By default she became one of my favorite cousins, because she married my favorite cousin (Win, though Deronde was a close second lol). I remember the first baby I held was her oldest son. She was always kind, had a laugh and a smile that could light up a room, and a calming yet strong spirit. I always saw her and cousin Win as best friends and a great picture of marriage. We are so sorry for this loss and trust that God's comfort, peace, and love will surround you, our family, during this time and the years to come. We love you more than words can express and grieve this incredible life with you.
Love,
Will and Veronica

Elaine is, not was such a beautiful soul, and I say this because her soul and spirit are still alive. Even though we did not have a chance to meet in person, we met every morning through a prayer call that we are both part of with La Rosa Realty. Elaine always had words of wisdom even through her personal struggles. She was always an encouragement to others, not looking at what she was going through, but praying for those that needed prayer. Even until the last days of her life, she was blessing everyone she came across, did not matter if she was struggling with breathing or pain. She would always try to join as she said that the morning calls were what got her through the day. Today I am praising the Lord for having the privilege of knowing her. I hope to someday meet on the other side. I also pray that her family feels the peace knowing that she left a legacy of love even to people she never even met in person, that her warm heart and caring spirit will live on forever in the lives she touched. Including mine.
