“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…” — Psalm 23
It is with profound sadness, yet humble submission to the will of God, that we announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy R. McWilliams “Dot” James.
Mrs. Dorothy R. McWilliams “Dot” James, 80, answered the Master’s call on Saturday, March 21, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a testament of faith, grace, and devotion. She was a faithful member of New Mt. Zion AME Church, a proud 1964 graduate of Old Lincoln High School, and later retired from Centel Telephone Company after years of dedicated service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Philadelphia P.B. Church, with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Viewing will be held Friday, March 27, 2026, from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 P.M. at Strong & Jones Funeral Home.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Clinton James, Carlton James, Sr. (Elder Tamara), and Clayton James (Marie); two grandchildren, Xandria and Carlton Jr.; one brother, Dr. Spurgeon McWilliams (Barbara); one sister, Bertha Rudolph; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and sorrowing friends.
On behalf of the management and staff of Strong & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., we extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the family of Mrs. Dorothy R. McWilliams “Dot” James. May God comfort you, strengthen you, and grant you peace during this time of bereavement.

We came into this world to serve and not to be served. And for one to have friends one must first be friendly. Job well done my dear friend...you went above and beyond. You fed the hungry, you comforted those who needed comforting, you visited and prayed for the sick, you encouraged the young and was always a guilding light full-filling the mission of God. You have completed your journey. Now rest well. I will miss you and will always remember you. My condolences to all the family.
