Ernest Tucker, 78, transitioned on Wednesday, August 24, 2020, at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House, ending his courageous battle with coronary heart disease. He was born November 4, 1941, to the late Bessie Bell and John Wesley Tucker in Woodville, FL. Graveside service will be 11 A.M. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery, 1601 Old Bainbridge Rd., Tallahassee, FL. Viewing will be from 11 AM to 6 PM Friday, September 4, 2020 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home. Ernest received his education in the Leon County Public School System, graduating from the original Lincoln High School in the class of 1962. He further pursued his education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) before being drafted to the U.S. Army in 1965. Ernest moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1973, where he lived for 35 years and was employed 25 of those years with Internal Revenue Services (IRS). Ernest was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Harold K. Brown, Sr., where he served faithfully. He was an ordained deacon and member of the Macedonia P.B. Church Male Chorus. He also served as Assistant Recording Secretary, Middle Florida Georgia Primitive Baptist Association. He was an active member and participant of the Lincoln High School Foundation, and the Lincoln High School Varsity āLā Club. Ernest was a kind and gentle spirit with a loving, generous heart as reflected in his willingness to look beyond himself to serve others. Ernest memories will live forever in the hearts of his son, Darryl K. Tucker (Linda); sisters, Gloria Tucker Woody (James), Bobbie Tucker Waldon (Charles), Jenita Tucker Dukes (Fred), Frances Tucker Smith (Leo) and Johnnie Mae Tucker Armstead; brothers, Elder Lewis Anderson (Helena), and Joseph Tucker, all of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; loving cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother and his wife, Clarence Tucker, Sr. (Vivian); sisters and husbands, Clara Tucker Paytee (William) and Lula Mae Tucker Taylor (Sam).
