It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Lester Smith.
Lester Smith was the son of the late Virginia Smith and Joe Smith.
Lester was born January 15, 1922 in Brooks County Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Joe Smith and his son Lester Smith Jr., one sister and two brothers. He was reared in Sylvester, Georgia (Worth County).
After becoming an adult, he moved to Brooklyn, New York and worked at the Todd Ship Yard for many years. He later moved to Beaverfalls, PA and worked the Pennsylvania Railroad.
In 1952 Lester moved to Tallahassee, FL and worked with Gulf Oil Company that later became the BP gas stations and he worked there over 33 years. He retired in 1985.
Lester confessed Christ at an early age in Worth Co. at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church under the late C.T. Anderson. After moving to Tallahassee he joined St. Mary P. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Matthews. He was a member there for many years. He later joined Shiloh P.B. Church to be with his wife and became the deacon and at one time was the only deacon. He also was the Sunday School Superintendent and Church Treasurer. He loved his church and was always faithful in his duties.
In 1976, he was married to Ida Mae Larkins. Lester has four daughters: Linda Williams, Tiffany Smith, Tameka Smith and Talisa Smith. He has 20 grand children, and many other grands, great grands and great great grands.
Lester hobbies included fishing, gardening and maintaining his yard.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Ida Smith 49 years of marriage, his devoted Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law Mrs. Delores Glover and Mr. Coleman Glover. Two other sister--in-laws and three brother-in-laws.
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Strong & Jones Chapel, with burial at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.
Viewing will be from 12:00 (Noon) to 6:00 P.M. Friday, November 14, 2025 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home.
