It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Lizzie Mae Jones.
Mrs. Lizzie Mae Jones was a devoted, loving and sweet mother and grandmother from the beginning until the end.
Our beloved Lizzie Mae Jones affectionately known as Doll received the gift of life on May 27, 1934 in Sumter County, Georgia, in the town of Smithville to the late Dave Jackson and Jessie Strechen Jackson. She entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. We celebrate her life and rejoice in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
She attended the public schools of Sumter County, Georgia. She confessed Christ in 1980 and joined the St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Lewis Anderson. She later joined the Griffin Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where she was a Matron, Director of Hospitality, sang in the choir and a member for more than forty years until her death.
Lizzie and her husband Henry, worked as sharecroppers in their early days in Smithville, Georgia. Upon moving to Tallahassee, Florida she worked as a housekeeper in private homes. She loved family, the Lord, children, cooking and decorating. She was always willing to give words of wisdom and encouragement to others, she was an excellent cook, she took great joy in feeding anyone who needed a meal. She always said, βIf you cooked and everything got eaten, someone didnβt get enough, there should always be something left over.β She was a true woman of God who loved the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband Henry Lee Jones, Sr. and all ten of her siblings.
Lizzieβs life and memories will forever be cherished in the lives of her seven children, Henry Lee Jones, Jr. (Gwen) of Tallahassee, FL, Johnny Lee Jones ( Lisa) of Midway, FL, Edna Bell (Frederick) of Tallahassee, FL, Ella Louise Bonner (Ray) of Jacksonville, FL, David Jones (Patricia) of Tallahassee, FL, Brenda Jones-Garrett (Alex) of Tallahassee, FL, and Patsy Jackson of Thomasville, GA; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00 (Noon) Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Old West Florida Enrichment Center, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
