It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deacon Moses Collins.
Deacon Moses “Sponce” Collins, a devoted Christian, father, brother, and friend, transitioned to glory, after a brief illness in Tallahassee, FL, on May 12, 2026. Moses was born on November 18, 1944, in Leon County to the late Willie Collins and the late Annie Collins. He was educated through the Leon County school system in Tallahassee, FL, where he graduated from the original Lincoln High School. He surrendered his life to God at an early age and began his Christian service at Elizabeth Popular Spring Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. During his walk with the Lord he served in numerous roles, including the choir and Deacon Board.
In 1966, Moses was joined in holy matrimony to Doris Austin and to that union two children were born. Anyone who knew him witnessed his devoted love for his family. Moses retired in 2016 after over 28 years of dedicated employment at Florida Education Association. He was the owner and operator of Tallahassee Janitorial Service for over 50 years.
Moses enjoyed Golden Oldies music, cars, watching drag races, and football. But most of all, he loved his family and community and graciously served others. Many family members and friends alike have benefitted from his generosity. Whether he gave his time, his talents or his treasure, Moses eagerly helped anyone in need. For those of us whose lives he touched so intimately and unselfishly, we can truly say we were blessed to have known and loved such a wonderful person.
Moses leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Doris, who was the love of life of 60 years; one son, Moses E. Collins (Linda), one daughter, Gia K. Gallon (Terry); five grandchildren, Austin Collins, Peyton Collins, Myles Kenon, McKenzi Kenon, Leah Gallon; one brother, Arthur Collins (Carolyn); two sisters, Lucinda Collins and Gracie Wilson; five godchildren, Ashley Brooks, Joyce Gainous-Harris, Meko Nobles, Ashley Rackley, DiCarlo Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. THURSDAY, May 21, 2026 at the Old West Florida Enrichment Center. Burial will be at Clifford Hill Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 12:00 (Noon) to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home.
On behalf of the staff and management of Strong & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Deacon Moses Collins.

To Doris, Moses, and Jill:
My heart is with you during this tender and difficult time. Please know that I am lifting each of you in prayer, asking God to surround you with His comfort, His strength, and His unending peace.
Doris, your beloved Moses was a man whose presence touched many lives, and his absence is felt deeply. May the Lord hold you close, wipe your tears, and steady your hearts as you walk through these days of grief and remembrance.
Doris, for 60 blessed years, you and Moses stood side by side, a living testimony of covenant love, endurance, and God's sustaining grace. His love for his family was steadfast and pure; he was a protector, a provider, and a pillar whose presence brought warmth, wisdom, and strength to every room he entered.
Moses loved people deeply. He carried a gentle spirit that made others feel valued, welcomed, and seen. His church family held a special place in his heart, and he served his role as Deacon with joy, reverence, and a servant's spirit. And of course, his pride for the FAMU Rattlers was unmatched—his smile always a little brighter when he spoke of them.
Family as you walk through this season of grief, may the God of all comfort surround you with His peace that surpasses all understanding. May the memories of Moses' kindness, his laughter, his faith, and his love be a source of strength in the days ahead. And may you feel the nearness of the Lord, who promises never to leave nor forsake you.
Please know that I am lifting each of you in prayer, asking God to hold you close, to steady your hearts, and to carry you gently through this time.
With heartfelt love, sympathy, and continued prayers, Felicia
