Dear Granny, Thank you for loving me & treating me like your granddaughter. Nikki & Mommy:Thank you for sharing her with me. I love you all so very much & will always be here. Love, Naomi
I'll always remember the warmness and comfort of Mrs. Essie Mae's home. Everytime I came to visit, she and mommy always made space for me. There are so many fond memories from hearing her laugh, and peek in behind Nikki when we were video chatting. I am grateful to have spent time with her the last time I was there and her words of wisdom she gave me on love, especially love for myself. But one of the best memories was the summer of 1997 when me and Nikki were freshmen in college and we attempted to try out for the FAMU marching band. We made it, but realized all the heat, and sweat was not the life we wanted for ourselves. While debating whether we should stay or go, Nikki said "just say the word, and I'll call my granny and she'll come get us." So I said "word", and granny was there lickety split! With snacks! We were able to stay with her until school officially started and she drove us back to campus. She was always amused at how much we talked and laughed all night. Even well into our 40's. She is the epitome of love, strength and grace. I am grateful for her beautiful life and spirit, which I know lives on. Love, Naomi
