Nikita T. Mingo was born in Blountstown, Florida on July 23, 1984, and was a little princess to her mother, the late Belinda Gail Baker, and father Eugene Mingo. She was not only a princess, she was a little angel and started her walk with God at a young age at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hugh Creek. Nikita’s faith in God would remain important to her as she dealt with health challenges because of sickle cell anemia. Nikita was a self-described sickle cell warrior. Nikita would not let the disease define her or her choices in life. As a child, Nikita aspired to be a gymnast and was a cheerleader in high school. Nikita successfully completed her studies in the public schools of Calhoun County, Florida. Nikita was a popular, outgoing, and magnetic member of the Blountstown High School Tigers family and Class of 2002. She was a loving and kind person and those values were conspicuous. Following high school, Nikita successfully enrolled and graduated from nursing school, and chose nursing as her life’s work. Because of her loving and kind ways and concern for others, nursing was clearly her passion and calling. Throughout her career, she worked in several capacities as a nurse. However, she found her work as a hospice nurse, most rewarding. She often expressed that it was a way to serve patients and their families when they needed it the most. Her empathy was sincere. Nikita had healing hands and a comforting bedside manner because she had been healed following episodes with her illness. Nikita embraced life fully. Nikita wasn’t just a “sickle cell warrior” she was an example to others with sickle cell. After Nikita chose her career, she would next choose love and would remain devoted to her fiancé and soul mate, Brandon Barber. Their loving bond would also give Nikita a second family to love and cherish—The Barber Family. The bravest of choices made by this sickle cell warrior was motherhood. Brandon and Nikita’s love were made complete with the birth of their son, Jayden C. Barber. Nikita was a devoted and doting mother. Because of her devotion, Jayden is on the right path to adulthood. God would call Nikita to His side on September 25, 2020, surrounded by her fiancé, her sister and the Barber & Solomon families.
Nikita is survived by her devoted fiancé and soulmate, Brandon M. Barber; her precious son and love of her life, Jayden C. Barber; her loving and supportive Barber family --Tony, Cynthia (other mother and caregiver), and Sherelle; Frances D. Solomon (Nana, personal nurse, and caregiver); her father, Eugene Mingo (Amanda), her sister, Kazaria Smith and her brother, Eugene Mingo, Jr. Nikita also leaves to cherish her memory and extended family that included her special uncles, Lonnie Baker, Kenny Baker, Aunt Paula Baker; Great-Aunt Kathy “Pat” Ward; Great Uncle Lonnie Clemons ( Bernice); Great-Uncle Clyde Blaine. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, JoAnn Mingo-Scott; her aunts, Callecia Mitchell, Vicki Barkers, and Monica Diles and her uncle, Nathan Mingo; She is also survived by her devoted friend, caregiver and Jayden’s Godmother, Cynthia Shingles (Sam) and George Yon, who helped to raise, nurture and support her throughout her life; and a host of relatives, friends and Classmates. Nikita was predeceased by her beloved mother, Belinda Gail Baker, and her grandparents Junior and Lizzie Baker.
