John Ballard (“Cornerstone” #2) planted 5 trees in memory of Anthony Keith James . - May 18, 2026
I had the privilege of being Keith's teammate and friend, and I'll always remember the laughter we shared. He had a quiet way about him, but once something struck him funny, he laughed with his whole heart—and brought everyone with him.
I'll never forget a ski trip where I thought I knew what I was doing... and Keith was in tears laughing by the end of the day. That was him—genuine, joyful, and unforgettable.
Keith even gave us a nickname—"The Cornerstones" #5 & #2—a memory I'll always carry.
Keith, I finally found those pictures you had been asking about for years. I wish I could show you—we would've laughed all over again.
My deepest condolences to his family. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.
Rest easy, my brother & much love.

I RECRUITED KEITH TO UNIVERSITY OF MAINE WITH DUANE BROOKS. MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE BLACKBEARSTRONG 🙏!
I shared the same huddle on defense with kieth. He slways seemed more mature and cool then alot of us especially me lol. He had a quiet way about him until he put pads on. Just a classy dude. It was an honor to be his teamate and friend. My condolences to his family RIP buddy.
I have such warm memories of Kieth in college. I was lucky to get a chance to catch up with him a few years back. Keith James is always somebody special. My condolences.
I'm very sad to hear about the passing of Keith. I had the privilege to be his teammate at UMaine back in the 80s. He was a kind, classy, hard working person that made a positive impact on those who had the honor to get to know him. My deepest sympathies to Keith's family. What a great guy.
It's been a while but I believe Keith followed Buddy Teevens to UMaine from Boston University or Coach Teevens recruited him. He was a talented athlete! Quiet and reserved but let his play on the field speak for itself. He was my roommate for a semester and I learned that he had a great sense of humor once you got him to laugh. I remember he was the first student I ever saw use a briefcase! To Keith's family, my deepest and most sincere condolences. He will always be remembered by his UMaine brothers!
RIP to our Maine Black Bear brother Keith James #5
