Funeral Service to be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. EST at Providence Baptist Church in Lato, AL with Rev. Dr. Stephen Faulk, officiating. Burial to follow in Andrew Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery Hurtsboro, AL. Public viewing will be Friday January 17, 2025 from 12-5 PM E.S.T.
Adell Johnson, Sr. was born on June 10, 1935, in Hatchechubbee, Alabama, to Frank and Mary Lee Johnson. He grew up in the close-knit community of Hatchechubbee, where he spent his early years helping on the family farm and attending a local school that instilled in him a strong work ethic and deep-rooted values. On January 9, 2025, Adell Johnson passed away at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.
Adell lived a life devoted to serving his family, always prioritizing their well-being and happiness. He was known for his unwavering support, whether through his hard work to provide for them, his wise guidance in challenging times, or the countless hours he spent creating cherished memories at family gatherings. He attended school in Russell County Alabama. He worked at the Bibb Mill Manufacturing Company for nearly fifty years, demonstrating exceptional dedication until the mill closed. Afterward, he retired from Piedmont Midtown following twenty years of committed service.
In July 1958, Adell married Lula Mae Ashford, beginning a partnership filled with love and mutual support. Together, they nurtured a warm and vibrant household, creating cherished traditions such as Sunday family dinners and holiday gatherings that brought everyone together. They were blessed with four beautiful daughters, and two amazing sons, each of whom they raised with unwavering dedication and love.
Adell Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lee Johnson and Frank Johnson Sr.; his three brothers, Willie Allen, Washington Johnson (and his wife, Clara), and Frank Johnson Jr.; his son-in-law, Melvin F. Norwood; and his great-grandson, Aron Jones III.
He survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lula Mae Johnson; his loving children, Mary Norwood, Katherine Jordan, Laverne (Aaron) Jones, Brenda (Kenneth) Coley, Melvin Marshall, and Adell (Delois) Johnson. He is also survived by three cherished sisters-in-law, Patricia Holmes, Fannie Thomas, and Pressie B. Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Deacon Bill Carr and Pastor James (Carol) Graham. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

To the family of Mr Adell Johnson, sorry for your loss, he will be missed. Mr Adell his brothers Washington and Frank (June) and my dad S.B. Horace was close friends growing up in Hatchechubbee Al. They stayed in touch with each other for years until my dad passed. Whenever you saw Mr Adell he would always speak he showed genuine concern and always asked how the family was doing, he believed in helping others, giving out moral support to anyone who needed it. He was a strong pillar in the community. A great friend mentor. Family he lived a full blessed life you all were fortunate to have him for these 89 years, be encouraged to mourn him as we all will be doing, our hearts and prayers are forever with y'all.
