Obituary For Alphonso Rutledge

Mr. Alphonso Rutledge, 76, of Columbus, GA passed Monday, October 24, 2022 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. EST Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Noble D. Williams, officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery, Columbus, GA. Visitation is Friday, October 28, 2022 from 12-5 p.m. EST.

God has the last word and He has spoken: choosing Deacon Alphonso Rutledge to transition to live eternally with Him, peacefully Monday, October 24, 2022 at his home at 76 years of age.

“AL” or “Zeke” as he was affectionally known was the beloved son of the late William Ezekiel, Jr. and the late Louise Rutledge Brown. AL was a native of Phenix City and a 1964 Graduate of South Girard High School. He was employed with Uniroyal-Goodrich for over 37 years. AL joined Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church and he was later ordained a Deacon January 19, 1992 under the Pastor, Rev. Cecil Terry. He served in that capacity until his health begin to fail, yet he was still faithful.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved aunt, Mattie Lee Sug James.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories include his dedicated wife of 53 years, Wanda Alexander Rutledge; two sons Alphonso Rutledge, Jr., and Andre Keith Rutledge; five grandchildren, Gavin Scott (Morgan), Alexis Rutledge, Kenyon Rutledge, Braydon Rutledge and Parker Hills; one brother, DeVince Rutledge; three sisters, Bobbie Crook (Ralph), Sherry Tate and Sandra Brown; devoted cousin and her family, Debbie Yvonne Andrews (Vincente), Vincente, Jr. (Brittney), Michael James (Carolyn); five sisters-in-law, Shirley Toombs, Lillie Harris, Hannah Alexander, Dwendolyn Alexander and Gloria Alexander; a host of nieces, nephews to include, Kevin Perry, Carol Toombs, Pamela Toombs and numerous cousins.

He will be missed by many for he had many friends to include, Arthur Beasley who he worked with and who never failed to call AL two or three times a week, our long time neighbor, Creola Howard; her family, our friend, Gloria Waits; her family, Linda Green, Katina James, Catherine Mills, Dr. William Roundtree and his staff and his Kindred Hospice Team, Marie, Mardecia, Jeremy, Rita and Chaplain Vincent.
